THE RECORDER The recorder, or flauta doce/de bisel, flauto dolce/dritto, flûte à bec, flauta dulce/de pico, Blockflöte, blokfluit... is an instrument with a lovely sound and a long history. It has been present in my life for 35 years now, and I still find it just as fascinating. It is a practical instrument, easy to carry around, and requires little financial investment at the start, but still opens up a world of possibilities and joy in music making. WHO I AM My name is Inês and I'm a professional recorder player, specialized in Baroque music. Music making for me is about communicating; with the audience, with colleagues, with another era, and with myself. Next to my life as a performing musician, I very much enjoy being a teacher (and also a researcher). MY QUALIFICATIONS I'm an active performer in some of the most renowned Early Music ensembles in the Netherlands, and with these fantastic colleagues I've played throughout Europe, Asia and Brazil at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals (e.g. Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Utrecht Festival Oude Muziek, TivoliVredenburg, Kölner Philharmonie, Izumi Hall). I hold a PhD in Music from Leiden University, and Bachelor's, Master's and teaching diplomas from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where I've been teaching since 2012. I am also a certified examiner for higher education in The Netherlands (Basiskwalificatie Didactische Bekwaamheid en Basiskwalificatie Examinering voor HBO-docenten). MY TEACHING STYLE I have been a teacher for over 18 years, guiding students of all ages and levels, from pre-school beginners to conservatory level and experienced amateurs; I equally enjoy teaching children and adults. I am flexible with my methodology, so together we will find the best way for the student to develop whilst enjoying making music. In a typical lesson we will work on sound, rhythm, musicality, discuss technical issues, learn about ensemble playing etc. If you are interested, we can also talk about differences in musical styles, repertoire and learn about the interesting history of the instrument.
