My recommendation for learning the Oud is to begin by studying musical notes and notation before delving into songs. While some students prefer to jump straight into playing songs, understanding the fundamentals of music notation accelerates progress in the long run. Dedication and hard work can yield significant progress within a year, enabling you to play simple tunes. However, if you lack a passion for music or the instrument itself, I advise against pursuing it. Additionally to these topics, we can do subjects based around music theory, Learning to read music and Music History. the main thing of course, is to have fun learning and performing! Alternatively, If you are already Studying Music and/or Singing and want help with revision or Practice, I am Happy to accommodate for this also. I have my Grade 8 in Singing, as well as having been trained in Music at degree level in multiple genres of vocal performance and additionally with 25 years of experience in performing arts. I am more than happy to accommodate multiple Genres, and again, all learning is at the students pace. I am available to teach from Friday 21st February 2025. I had a great first lesson with Mariela. What I found most important: - Mariela ensures you're comfortable. Her kindness and calm confidence work wonders for a self-conscious and nervous person like me. - Explanations! Everything is clearly explained, so you always know why you're doing something and how to do it correctly. - I loved the flexible approach: if you know exactly what you want, she'll help you achieve it, but if you're completely lost, she's ready to guide you, offer different options, and give you advice. No pressure, but lots of support. - I feel like Mariela has many different teaching strategies for various personalities and goals, which is awesome. Plus, she has a lot of cool vocal tricks up her sleeve! - It's obvious that Mariela loves both music and teaching, which is so inspiring. Overall, I had a very fun and productive experience and will definitely continue studying with Mariela!
