My teaching is customized to support each student's musical goals. Prior to moving to The Hague, I spent five years teaching group and private lessons for a variety of arts education organizations in Philadelphia (USA). In each space, I create safe and fun learning environments for students by maintaining a consistently supportive demeanor and by using positive reinforcement to encourage student behavior and growth. I’m patient, and empathetic, and maintain a firm belief in all students’ capacity for improvement and success. In the lessons, we will focus on creating a beautiful, efficient, and flexible sound through various exercises and musical pieces. Caleb –––––––– A bit about me: Originally from Indiana (USA), I have performed professionally with the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, with organist Clara Gerdes at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and with members of the American Brass Quintet at the Aspen Music Festival. As a baroque trumpeter, I have performed with The Sebastians, the Philadelphia Bach Collegium, with members of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, and with the Jeune Orchestre de l’Abbaye and Philippe Herreweghe at the Festival de Saintes. While attending Curtis Institute of Music, my colleagues and I won first prize at the National Trumpet Competition (USA) in the trumpet ensemble division. As a passionate advocate for music education and arts access, I served as an ArtistYear fellow, teaching sixty-five recorder students at Powel Elementary School in Philadelphia during the 2016-17 school year. I have also served as a teaching artist for Jazz Aspen Snowmass and Philadelphia’s Play on Philly. As a founding member of The Brass Project from 2016-2018, I premiered over thirty new works written for the ensemble. During this time The Brass Project was featured by Santa Fe Pro Musica, at National Sawdust, and at Music from Angel Fire. Our debut album, “Cityscaping,” was released in December 2018. I recently graduated with a master’s degree in baroque trumpet at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. I earned an Artist Diploma at the Curtis Institute of Music, and a bachelor’s degree at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

When I arrived in Paris, I had the chance to benefit from the teaching of Guy Touvron (Schola Cantorum) and Clément Saunier (CRR de Paris) for about 4 years. I was also able to benefit, through masterclasses, from the advice of great world-famous trumpeters such as Allen Vizzuti (USA), Thomas Hooten (USA), Hakan Hardenberger (Sweden), David Guerrier (France), Miroslav Petkov (Bulgaria ) ... I suggest you discover and / or deepen the technique of the trumpet; having worked for a long time with a physiotherapist specialized for musicians, we will be able to address points such as posture, breathing techniques, projection, opening of sound .... Essential points for building a game that is both healthy and staff ! Also, my teaching combines music theory and the aspects allowing to better understand and feel the music, that is to understand at the same time in a theoretical and musical way what the score releases. These two traits of learning are a basis which to my taste brings a technical solidity and an artistic sensibility closely linked. Trusted teacher: I am currently on a year’s deferral from my studies at the Royal Academy of Music due to the COVID virus so now have more availability to teach! I have finished my second year at the Royal Academy of Music studying under Mark David and Will O’Sullivan. Prior to this, I was a student at Chetham’s School of Music receiving the highest level tutelage from world class players. Highlights of my playing career include playing a recital at Buckingham Palace, playing a fanfare for the Queen at Westminster Abbey for Commonwealth Day and recording two albums professionally, the first as Principal Trumpet of NYOGB and the second as Principal Fanfare Trumpet with the Gabrieli Consort. I have also had the pleasure to study under some of the biggest names within the trumpet world such as Reinhold Friedrich, Allen Vizzutti and Tine Thing Helseth, to name but a few. I also teach Piano as I hold both Grade 8 distinction in Piano (gained many years ago) and a Diploma in Music Theory which allow me to teach Piano to the highest level. I have a great passion for music that I love to share with students. I’m a firm believer that teaching doesn’t end when the hour is over and always encourage my students to freely contact me with any questions they discover during the week. I believe that the key to success with music is perseverance and having fun so I encourage my students to push themselves to be the best they can be, whilst also creating a fun learning environment!
