Creative Writing for Beginners with Peter

I am a BA graduate of Classics and Literature from Athens National and Kapodistrian University and holder of an MA degree in Dramaturgy and Writing for Performance from Goldsmiths University of London. I have nearly 10 years of experience of teaching in different countries, settings and age groups as a private tutor of ancient and modern Greek in my home country and as a primary school TA and Art Teacher in the UK. At the same time, I have developped my career as a theatre freelancer in production and dramaturgy. Throughout my life I have engaged with writing, both creatively as a writer and theatre maker and as a facilitator and script reader. I can offer Creative Writing sessions for emergning writers in Theatre and Poetry. Whether you have some experience or you're just getting started, I can help you shape and develop your craft, offer constructive feedback and helpful reading lists and creative references. I also offer 1:1 lessons of Greek and Ancient Greek, Classics, Literature and Theatre to indiviuals and small groups of all ages and backgrounds.

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or poet with some experience, these classes will be tailored to suit your approach and level. The class will be a safe space for you to receive informed feedback on your work, to do lively and fun but challenging exercises, listen to mini-talks, to explore of form in poetry, say, in a lively and accessible manner, to learn about particular poets, past and present, or advice about publishing and other aspects of 'being a poet' relevant to your accomplishments so far.

Poetry is a unique and specialized craft, requiring a strong facility for language and a distinct poetic voice. In this class we can work on whatever you need: starting from scratch with prompts for beginning a poem, workshopping an already existing piece or pieces, or learning about formal techniques and the fundamental aspects of good poetry. Learn from an experienced student of poetry! Halli received her BA in Creative Writing from DePaul University in 2023. She is currently pursuing an MA in Poetry at Queen's University Belfast. She is a Citywide Poet Representative and former editor of DePaul Literary Magazine, Crook & Folly. She has been published in Crook & Folly ed. 42 (2022) and The Apiary ed. 8. (2025).

Would you like to learn how to write poetry or develop your poetic craft with the assistance of an experienced teacher? In this class, we'll work on shaping new drafts whilst learning about international poetic forms as well as producing some free verse work. We'll edit our material and, if we have multiple sessions, we'll put together a brief collection! We will explore the world of the senses, memories, and connect to language in a new, profound way. My course is not prescriptive, and we'll meet your voice wherever you're at right now. You'll be taught by a published poet with work experience in the UK and North America. I've taught Creative Writing to university students at a world-leading school, and worked with younger audiences, and I'm happy to work with a variety of forms in English. I studied for my MFA in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia, and won a scholarship as the strongest poet in my cohort.

Yes! Do you write? Do you feel like writing? But where to start and/or how to continue? Writer's block is a nice word/illness invented to reassure the "writer" stuck in the beginning of his text! I took the plunge, I dared!, I wrote, reworked my texts and publishers appreciated them! Already 3 books published - and one in progress: Entre deux bleus, Papa Tango Charlie, Mals à mon slam) You will see what a pleasure it is to have YOUR book in your hands! And it will go faster than you think. As you know, two are always stronger! The scheduled sessions are one hour long but we are allowed to go a little over - I didn't swallow a clock! - and what's more, you can't help but notice that we get a lot done in an hour! The story is moving forward, moving forward... thanks also to the personal work between two sessions - and the book is being written, from 30 pages, we've gone to 60 and it's not over yet...

As well as performing for decades on stage and on screen, I have also run The Bedlam Bunch Children's Theatre and Entertainment since 2007, through which I have written and directed numerous stage plays as well as interactive, immersive shows for children aged 3 - 9 years. I also founded and ran Outburst Theatre from 2010 - 2019 as a platform to bring communities together in South East London via educational theatre projects. As a solo artist, I have written and produced three one-woman stage shows - "Raw Cake", "Through the Hourglass" and "The Wonky Shonky Show" - all performed in London, UK. This course is for "anyone" interested in learning the concepts, techniques, and skills required to write a film script. Regardless of writing for film, TV, or theatre, the fundamentals are very similar, however, this course will focus specifically on writing for the screen. The course will take you through an understanding of what makes a compelling story, fully developed characters, writing dialogue, the basic three act structure, organizing your story thoughts, theme, tone, pace, outlining, learning screenwriting format, and most importantly finding your voice as a writer. The classes will be tailored to your specific needs, but is intended to build upon various concepts, culminating with a completed short screenplay. This course will prove to be fun as well as interesting, enlightening, and will set you on the path for further writing.

As a Writer and Screenwriter who has completed the prestigious Creative Writing MA at The University of East Anglia, recently developed a dramedy series with a Netflix fellow, and written a short film that was shot in 2022, I have much experience and expertise to offer in the field of creative writing. Every writer has a unique writing voice that is deeply connected to lived experience. This weekly exploratory public program will engage participants in both theatre-based embodied practices and writing exercises designed to assist them in tapping into a deeper process of crafting poetry. The progression of the program will be as follows: Week 1- A brief exploration of the questions, "What is a poem?", “What makes a good poet?” and "Why do write poetry?". Participants will bring their favorite selection of poetry to discuss why they feel connected to both the writing and the poet. This is in preparation for Week 2.
