Everyone learns differently. That's why I teach the way you want. You decide what you want to learn and how, including when your lesson takes place and how long it lasts. I teach creative writing to anyone who wants it, regardless of age, online or at my home in Velp. I can help you write fiction, nonfiction, poetry, song lyrics or theatre text. I can teach you writing techniques or we can work on a writing project. Whether it's a book, blog, fan fiction or thesis, I can help you. Anything is possible. I am a trained writer and a second-degree teacher. I have over 10 years of experience in education and have been teaching creative writing, literature, art history and other subjects at a small secondary school for a number of years, where I am also a team member. I write teaching materials that are used at various schools in secondary and higher education. I have a lot of experience with innovative education and one-on-one teaching. During the sessions, you are guided in your writing project. Worldbuilding is the art of creating settings for your stories, whether they be written and published, or role-played out by a Dungeons and Dragons or other TTRPG group. Stories are fun, but they’re funner if you build the world in which they take place well. I can help you with that, especially when it comes to creating compelling, realistic, and/or thematic fictional histories, politics, and societies.

This passion followed me to the University of British Columbia, where I majored in Sociology and Creative Writing. While a subsequent career in marketing (both in Canada and Karachi) provided valuable experience, I always felt a yearning for deeper fulfillment. My foray into film production ignited this passion, confirming my true calling as a storyteller and creative. However, it was when I began working with children that I truly found my joy. I'm a writer and poet, and my experience of tutoring hundreds of people over the past couple of decades has taught me that anyone can write with the right tools, support and encouragement! We all have experiences we can draw on to express ourselves creatively through the written word. Children, young people, and those experiencing challenges often find writing particularly beneficial and enjoyable. I am here to help inspire new and emerging writers by guiding you through the basics of writing, facilitating a deepened enjoyment and understanding of the power of words, and, importantly, supporting you to have confidence in your unique voice. These interactive, informal, and supportive online classes are aimed at students of any age (above 7 years) who wish to write poetry, short stories, or creative prose (such as life writing). This includes beginners who are keen to learn basic writing skills, and those with some experience wishing to develop their practice and learn more, including students of English and creative writing at school, college or outside of formal education. Although we will touch on key grammatical terms, the focus will be on your creative expression through the written word. In these classes, which will be tailored according to age, experience, needs, and areas of interest, students will learn the basics of writing short stories, including flash fiction; poetry, including free verse and traditional forms such as Haiku and sonnets; and creative prose, including life writing or short creative essays. You can attend as many classes as you like, and together, we will build your skills and understanding of creative writing, including identifying the stories you want to tell. The classes will be a mix of presentation, 'warm-up' writing activities, discussion, reading and analysing key texts, main writing activities, and redrafting, editing and proof-reading your work. For those wishing to get published, there will be additional optional support available, such as detailed editing and mentoring advice, as well as hints and tips on developing as a writer. Bring what you need to me, and we will shape the classes together! I hold a recent DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, and parents or guardians of students under 18 years of age are welcome to meet the tutor first, and/or sit in on the classes. In this class, You will learn not only how communicate effectively, but also the differences between formal and informal language, writing essays, creative writing and various vocabulary choices for various purposes and audiences and how to speak and read with fluency.

Poetry is a unique and specialized craft, requiring a strong facility for language and a distinct poetic voice. In this class we can work on whatever you need: starting from scratch with prompts for beginning a poem, workshopping an already existing piece or pieces, or learning about formal techniques and the fundamental aspects of good poetry. Learn from an experienced student of poetry! Halli received her BA in Creative Writing from DePaul University in 2023. She is currently pursuing an MA in Poetry at Queen's University Belfast. She is a Citywide Poet Representative and former editor of DePaul Literary Magazine, Crook & Folly. She has been published in Crook & Folly ed. 42 (2022) and The Apiary ed. 8. (2025).
