I am a former police detective who once worked with victims and witnesses of crime. In 1999 I was awarded the Maryland Governor’s Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Contributions in the Field of Victim/Witness Services. Fond of true crime, I enjoy advocating through storytelling by giving voice to the dead, ignored, and oppressed. My purpose in writing has always been to champion social impact narratives, provoke thought, and effect change for representatives of the BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color) community(ies). As a U.S.National Finalist in the Coverfly Screencraft Virtual Pitch Spring 2022 and again in Fall 2023, I am now in the nascent statges of completing my first manuscript for a creative non-fiction book due to be self-published Winter 2024. Students will be expected to complete a homework task weekly. The pieces will be marked and given feedback, alongside a discussion about the piece itself. This class intends to improve the students understanding and knowledge of English Literature and Creative Writing, through fostering a love of the texts given, and empowering young writers to confidently share their voices.

Or do you feel shy about sharing your creative writing and want to take the next steps? I’ve successfully helped mentor people on their journey into creative writing and in the classes we will take the journey looking at ways to help overcome obstacles that might be stopping or blocking your progresses, or helping you to continue writing you may have started. We will do this with a mixture of looking at your work and thinking of strategies to help you overcome any potential blocks. Although I have a particular interest in writing for plays, (I am a playwright and published poet), this class is for also for those wanting write creatively.

I can aid students from preschool to IGCSE/GCSE level in English, Verbal Reasoning, and essay writing. Having achieved an A* in both English Language and English literature, I am passionate about teaching children how to love the subject and excel in their examinations. I have tutored English in the past to both preschool and IGCSE pupils, offering a dynamic and interactive teaching style that helps nurture a child's love for English and creative writing. I have access to the poetry pamphlet taught in most schools for IGCSE, but can access whatever syllabus is needed for a specific exam. I also have created several worksheets for students who are learning English as their second language. Having studied French, German, and Latin at school, I am aware of the etymology of many words which will allow students to connect meanings across their language to understand the literature fully. In my free time, I write poetry and novels and can share many teachings I learnt on a creative writing course I undertook in 2016.

In this class, we'll work on shaping new drafts whilst learning about international poetic forms as well as producing some free verse work. We'll edit our material and, if we have multiple sessions, we'll put together a brief collection! We will explore the world of the senses, memories, and connect to language in a new, profound way. My course is not prescriptive, and we'll meet your voice wherever you're at right now. You'll be taught by a published poet with work experience in the UK and North America. I've taught Creative Writing to university students at a world-leading school, and worked with younger audiences, and I'm happy to work with a variety of forms in English. I studied for my MFA in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia, and won a scholarship as the strongest poet in my cohort.
