Classical Drawing: The Serious Art Student's Guide to Drawing Mastery
Learn rigorous technique first, and THEN break the rules.
As a classically trained artist in drawing and painting, I offer private tutoring that emphasizes mastering the fundamentals to develop accomplished, technically skilled artists who can confidently express their creativity. My approach is structured, rigorous, and designed to push students to achieve their best. While some may find my method strict, I believe in teaching the rules thoroughly so that you can confidently break them later.
What I Offer:
Foundational Skills: Strengthen your abilities in line work, value, proportion, perspective, and texture to build a robust technical base.
Composition & Framing: Understand how to structure engaging artwork through thoughtful layout, balance, and spatial design.
Rigorous Critique: Receive honest, constructive feedback to identify areas for growth and refine your individual hand.
Unique Assignments with Clear Goals: Each project is tailored to address specific skills or concepts: contrast, scale, accuracy, perspective, and still life vs narrative-driven styles are just a few examples.
Diverse Areas of Focus: Explore various disciplines, including:
2D design
Still-life
Architectural drawing
Human anatomy and figure drawing
Portrait drawing
Illustration
Media and Techniques:
I guide students in mastering traditional drawing media, including graphite, charcoal, conte, pen and ink, and technical pens. Additionally, if the student progresses, I will offer opportunities to explore printmaking techniques such as silverpoint, etching, and linocut to expand their artistic repertoire.
My Approach and Expectations:
I teach with the belief that discipline and dedication are essential for artistic growth. My sessions combine hands-on demonstrations, guided practice, and critical discussions to ensure students gain a comprehensive understanding of both technical and conceptual aspects of drawing. While I set high expectations, I also offer the support and tools needed for students to rise to the challenge.
After most sessions, I assign homework to be completed by the next class. I certainly expect my younger students especially to complete these assignments. While my lessons are technical and follow strict parameters, there is plenty of opportunity for students to choose their own subjects and designs.
I also highly recommend my student take excellent notes during my demonstrations and instruction time. I will always share my own notes and sketch journals so the student has a goal in mind. After a section of tuition has been completed (equal to a half term) I examine the notes and give feedback.
Who Can Benefit:
Beginners aiming to establish strong technical foundations
Intermediate students refining their composition and conceptual skills
Advanced artists seeking rigorous critique and structured challenges
Portfolio builders preparing for art schools or professional opportunities
With a focus on both mastery and creativity, I help students develop the skills and confidence to create meaningful, rule-breaking artwork.
After I share these tips, the student purchases their own supplies with confidence, knowing their materials are reliable, long-lasting, and will deliver the best results in terms of mark-making.

Extra information
For the first few classes, I provide the materials free of charge. Part of my introductory lessons familiarize the student with tools, media, and materials. I teach what brands are preferable, where to buy (both online and in-store), how to gauge the quality of graphite and paper, how to care for tools, how to store and preserve drawings, and tricks of the trade. There are many instances where art supply shops will sell expensive gimmicks that are easily made at home. After I share these tips, the student purchases their own supplies with confidence, knowing their materials are reliable, long-lasting, and will deliver the best results in terms of mark-making.

About Me
My name is Lacey. I am American but have married and settled in North London. My fine art education began in New York and was completed in Oxford and London. I am a classically trained artist in drawing and painting, and I bring a disciplined, structured approach to my private tutoring. My goal is to help students master the fundamentals of drawing, equipping them with the technical skills and creative confidence to become accomplished artists. Through tailored lessons in areas such as still-life, architectural drawing, human anatomy, figure drawing, portraiture, geometry, and illustration, I provide a comprehensive education that balances traditional techniques with opportunities for creative exploration.I expect students to come to each lesson with focus and a willingness to engage with the material at a deep level. My approach can be rigorous, as I believe in mastering the rules first and applying them with precision. While I offer constructive feedback and critical analysis, I also encourage students to push boundaries once they’ve built a strong foundation.
What I look for in students is dedication, patience, and a genuine desire to improve. I value open communication and a collaborative attitude, where students are not only learning the technical aspects of drawing but also developing their own artistic voice. Teaching for me is about creating an environment where students can be challenged, thrive, build confidence, and ultimately express their creativity with skill, clarity, and grace.

I'm Also happy to work from the comfort of a space identified by yourself - a home or studio - anywhere you would like to work (including my own home, if you prefer)
Painting - also able to offer 'from life' lessons, but it is probably more appropriate to work inside, for this.

RCA Graduate tutoring in Art & DesignFrom younger ages to portfolio support for art school.I am an RCA MA Painting graduate, and I have a BA(Hons) degree in Fine Art from Westminster University, and a Foundation diploma in Art & Design from the University for the Creative Arts. I am a practicing artist based in London, specializing in painting, and I have been showing my work nationally and internationally. My recent solo show was at Class Reiss London, and I also had a solo presentation at Art Athina. My fascination with tutoring derives from my sensitivity around learning disabilities, something which is a recurring theme in my practice as I grew up as a dyslexic learner, as well as my educational experience of being part of leading academic UK institutions.
Through my work as an art tutor I strive to inspire and support my students, offering insight to my experience as a RCA alumnus and to the professional life of an artist. I teach students of all ages, as I strongly believe that involvement with the arts is always eye opening and revealing, especially when this leads to a career in the arts through higher education.
I can offer art lessons for younger children, involving introduction to creative techniques and idea development, mentoring and support with portfolio preparation to apply for art schools internationally as well as tutoring on contextualizing your work through constructive and generative feedback.

Art classes in painting, drawing and crafts with a UAL Fine Art GraduateI'm a Fine Art graduate from University of the Arts London (UAL) - I currently specialise in photography and videography. However I have taught a range of different art disciplines from painting, drawing, design, crafts and sculpture. On a regular basis I teach children from ages 4-11 but I have experience teaching teenagers and adults as well.
During lessons we can focus on a particular discipline such as painting or drawing, work on a project that someone has already started in their own time or I can assist with portfolios or sketchbooks for GCSE/AS/A Levels/Foundation/Degree. These classes are for everyone, ranging from fun creative art play for younger years to older years wanting to learn a new skill or develop a hobby.
Having the ability to be creative and explore art is so beneficial for both children and adults and I aim to make my lessons as supportive, fun, engaging and positive as possible.

CINEMA, ACTING, IMPROVISATION WORKSHOPS - - -These sessions allow the development of skills and knowledge of the trade, with the game facing the camera, familiarization with the audiovisual environment and the camera tool, in the art of acting.
Your inventiveness and your uniqueness being at the center of your training, it is a question of dwelling on the objective criteria, such as the voice, the use of the body, the relationship with the partner, the capacity to occupy the space. But it is also the singularity and the commitment that are decisive.
The objective of this training is to be able to:
- Analyze and dissect a text
- Create, develop and embody a character
- Understand the artistic and technical writings of a film or a play
- Create, cultivate and develop one's artistic identity and singularity
(...)
Through simulations and role-playing, the association between theory and practice makes it possible to achieve its objectives.
PLACES :
- Locations: Geneva - Lausanne - Friborg - Neuchâtel - Montreux - Basel - Sion - Sierre - Morges - Bienne. But currently and until further notice, only by videoconference in accordance with national recommendations on Covid.
These sessions, for which you have asked me, also seem to be perfectly unanimous since they arouse a certain enthusiasm (and a certain enthusiasm). Indeed, they have the advantage of face-to-face sessions (ex: quality of the interaction), without its disadvantages (ex: loss of travel time) with additional advantages (ex: the entire session transcribed in writing on the chat). That is why, at your request, I continue to offer this option.
- As other people do regularly, you can also please your loved ones by offering gift vouchers available all year round.

MENTORING IN ARTS : Discover how to say something through your artistic work.I am a visual artist born in Barcelona, settled in Belgium since 2017. As an artist I have accumulated experience for the last 25 years. I am graduated with an Academic Bachelor in Fine Arts in the University of Barcelona and graduated as a Master in Visual Arts at Sint Lucas School of Arts in Antwerpen.

I understand the artistic practice as a way to understand ourselves and the situations which surrounds us. In my classes I don't teach how to do Art, but as how to say something through your artistic work. With me you can work independently, with a coach who will challenge you with some assignments and giving feedback to your personal concerns.
In addition, you will learn how to work with several mediums, preparing your own material: paintings, canvases, and so on.
You will not only receive individual coaching but as encourage you to look other artists or take into account other references connected with your concerns.
