I introduce piano techniques such as walking bass, tenths, stride, drop 2, and more. From my experience, rhythm, "Groove", and the connection with the music in the moment it is being played are the most challenging aspects to learn and integrate. Thus, I give significant emphasis to these topics in my sessions, especially those aimed at playing polyrhythmic instruments such as the piano. I cover compositional tools, approaching Jazz Standards, accompaniment techniques, improvisation methods for any instrument, Blues tools, methods to strengthen the relationship with the instrument, analysis, and listening skills. I also teach classical piano for those interested, and offer specific training in rhythm and percussion. I am fully committed to my students. I have played since age 7, studied since age 13, and played professionally since age 18. I work professionally as a band leader, composer, and side person. After around 25 years of experience on the guitar, I can confidently say that I am equipped to share the knowledge that I have accumulated over the years. Yoichi is an amazing pianist. As someone with no experience playing Jazz, I found the first lesson very helpful. He brought lead sheets and explained how Jazz music is performed, walked me through some chord structures and gave me some structure for developing a practice routine. He was also very accommodating about our meeting location. I'm looking forward to future lessons with him.

He was an amazing teacher and so helpful at explaining not only what you can do to improve your singing but also explaining how to work on it and give you exercises you can do to grow your voice right from the get go.
