Trusted teacher: What is singing? If I were to summarize it in three simple words, I’d say it’s “a melodic exhale”. We take in a relaxed breath and then vocalize as we exhale, much like we do when speaking. We may vary the pitch, loudness, endurance, or timbre of our words, but we’re always making sound on the out-breath. That’s it. It’s not as complicated as people think. It’s not a case of “you either have it or you don’t”. If you can breathe, hear, and talk—you can sing! And guess what? Just like any other physical skill, the only thing that separates a beginner from a virtuoso are the number and quality of your “reps”, or repetitions. This is why people hire coaches: to train under the guidance of a professional and to get from Point A to Point B faster and more easily. So what’s Point B? Well, it depends on your level of experience. · If you’re only just getting started, it might mean learning to manage your breath and match pitch. It might mean developing an awareness of how your voice feels inside your body at different points in your vocal range. It might mean building confidence. · If you’re an experienced singer, but struggle with certain stylistic elements, it could mean learning to belt high notes consistently and safely. Or connecting more authentically with the emotion in a song and really making it your own. · If you’re a touring professional, it could involve acquiring strategies to care for your voice even under the demands of frequent back-to-back gigs. The needs of a singer change throughout the artistic journey and I would love to guide you through all these transitions! ***** BIO: My name is Luca. I’m a Croatian-Canadian singer, songwriter, and guitarist, currently writing and recording my debut album. For over a decade now, I’ve studied both classical and contemporary voice and honed my craft in the folk, jazz, pop, and world music genres. I’ve performed in a variety of languages and on stages in Canada and Europe. Over the past couple of years, I’ve also studied vocal pedagogy so that I can help others reconnect with their voice. I started my teaching practice as a coach in October 2023. Here are some reviews from my students showing the ways in which I've helped them: ***** LESSON BREAKDOWN: Singing lessons last an hour, which is roughly divided into the following: · Bodywork for tension release, e.g. physical stretches (10-15mins) · Vocal warmups, e.g. lip and tongue trills on various ascending and descending scales (20-30mins) · Repertoire chosen by you (20-30mins) This structure acts as a general guideline only, which may vary depending on individual needs. Usually beginner singers will need to spend more time on basic technique at first before being able to tackle repertoire for half an hour. Experienced singers will typically spend more time on repertoire, but might need guidance on vocal stamina when touring or mastering advanced techniques like mix, belt, and twang. Sometimes I might have to step outside of the lesson plan to explain an anatomical concept or address an issue such as performance anxiety. So there’s plenty of flexibility built into the sessions too. Repertoire you choose can be performed in a variety of languages, including English, Croatian / Serbian / Bosnian, French, Spanish, Italian, or German. I speak most of these languages either fluently or conversationally, and I have sung repertoire in all of them. So I’m comfortable working with them. In terms of musical accompaniment, my students often use backing tracks found on YouTube. If that is not available, I can arrange a simple accompaniment on guitar. Singers who are musicians may likewise choose to accompany themselves on their instrument. If a singer does not play an instrument but is interested in pursuing that, I can offer some guidance on beginner to intermediate guitar or basic piano. For those interested in artist development, I also coach beginner to advanced songwriting strategies, with a specialty in lyrics. Lastly, singing can feel a little vulnerable sometimes. Though I am not a therapist, I am a trauma-informed practitioner and can provide a safe space for you to express any emotions or thought patterns that might pop up during lessons. If something appears in session that I am not qualified to address, I'm happy to refer you to the appropriate medical or therapeutic practitioner. And that's it! I'm Katie, a professional multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer and educator with a big desire to support my students to ignite their own passion for music. As a teacher I have 12 years' experience creatively inspiring young people and adults in 1:1 lessons, leading choirs, directing music for youth theatre companies and in a charity providing music to vulnerable teenagers. I'm a trauma informed practitioner and work directly with the amazing potential of music to translate feelings into sound. Understanding music theory is a liberating tool for doing just this - and I seek to find what lights up my students and make the learning fascinating and fun, tailored to how they learn best. As a musician I've played for 23 years, I achieved my grade 5 theory and grade 5 cello exams aged 11, I've have had my original compositions played on Jazz FM and BBC 6 Music, achieved a 1st at Durham University studying music, grade 6 piano as a teenager and grade 8 distinction in flute, as well as becoming fluent on electric bass, ukulele and voice. Trusted teacher: Understanding music theory is essential when becoming a musician of any kind, as it deepens one's knowledge of how exactly music works. The more one knows about it, the better they can listen to, perform and write music. In the rich history of the subject, a clear narrative of evolution can be found that shows how music has arrived at the stage it is at today, all of which can be seen in the application of music theory and how it has changed over time. This is my biggest passion, and I would love to share my knowledge with any beginners wanting to develop/strengthen their musical competency or intermediates who want to focus on a specific aspect of classical or jazz and really understand how it works. As an introduction to myself: I have studied music theory and composition for a few years in various countries at various institutions (private lessons in Düsseldorf, briefly at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and currently at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna), and have had experience in tutoring/teaching since I tutored math, history, and biology in school to friends of mine. I like to think my ability to teach comes from my parents, who are both teachers and whose passion for helping others learn definitely influenced me! I have experience with teaching children, where I helped many younger students with playing music when I was in high-school, meaning I know how to make learning a fun process for just about anyone. Music and teaching are two of my biggest passions, and I have been told that is quite noticeable simply upon meeting me, as my enthusiasm is very contagious. The lesson plan will also be adjusted to make sure that learning is happening at a pace that works with the student. There can be regularly scheduled tests for the student in any of the different categories mentioned above in order to ensure that the student fully understands what is being taught. Music is one of the greatest things in the world, and I can safely say that being able to help others learn all the amazing components of music as I have is something I take incredibly seriously. £20Beginner to Advanced Lessons for Guitar Players for all ages
Trusted teacher: After dedicating 14 years to mastering the guitar, I've developed a comprehensive understanding of guitar playing, encompassing both foundational techniques and advanced music theory. In these lessons, I'll be sharing the wealth of knowledge I've accumulated over this extensive period of learning. I will be covering a broad range of guitar techniques, including fingerpicking, strumming techniques, major and minor chords, power chords, barre chords, riffs, scales, finger warm-ups, practising any song of your choice, string bending, pull-offs, hammer-ons, harmonics, strumming patterns, and slides. All are provided with diagrams etc. For music theory, I will begin by covering the fundamentals, including notes, strings, and the musical 12-note chromatic scale alphabet on the guitar. As students progress, we will delve into more advanced topics such as tones, semitones, chord progressions, circle of fifths, scale formulas and chord terminology. Additionally, we will explore concepts like consonance and dissonance and pitch practice to develop relative pitch. (You have to be born with perfect pitch but you can learn relative pitch with practise!) Then advancing to jazz theory, we'll explore; jazz scale formulas, jazz chord progressions, swing techniques, major and minor 7th chords, major and minor 9th chords, dominant, augmented, half-diminished, diminished, sus2 and sus4 chords. And then jazz scales and the art of re-harmonising a song (changing the chords to jazz chords). All music theory will be intertwined with guitar practice as both can't be done without the other! One observation I've made while learning guitar through lessons is that information is often doled out incrementally, making it feel like a breadcrumb trail. Guitar knowledge and skills seem to be closely guarded and usually gatekept unless actively sought out. I strongly believe that the extensive knowledge I've acquired over 14 years of playing should be fruitfully shared in a more comprehensive and accessible manner, of course while being tailored to the pace of the students. In essence, I'm convinced that the depth of my understanding I've gained could be effectively conveyed and learnt within a two-year timeframe without including the time it takes to master the skill with practice, of course, I'd like to make it easier for people to learn the guitar and the theory behind it. I have also graduated with a distinction for my Music Performance and Production UAL Level 3 Course and a distinction in Fashion Communication which included my music playing at Central Saint Martins. I also have experience teaching guitar in London and Bristol before. The lessons will be taught in English so practising your English with me is also a plus, a foundational knowledge of English is required to take the lessons.

Over the years I played in various settings: chamber music (small ensembles like trios, quartet), bands (new music), solo and orchestras such as the Nationaal Jeugdorkest and Jong Metropole (national youth jazz orchestra). I love to play classical music but also some jazz, funk or pop! I like to play with people, create music together, improvise... And I hope this is something I can also pass on to my students! I have been playing trumpet for about 5 years, growing every time. I wanted a new trumpet teacher to help my trumpet technique and skill of improvisation. From the first lesson I really liked Oleg. He has a natural way of teaching, is very knowledgeable, and respectful to your level. He is really a good teacher, and worth signing up with. Recommend 100%. I am still happily going to Oleg, every week!
