I think that everyone is capable of learning and progressing in a language provided they have good will and motivation. Often my job involves helping a learner come to terms with the language and let go of bad memories of it in the past. My work often involves reconciling the learner with the fear of making mistakes, since it is by making mistakes and being corrected that we learn a large part of a language. I emphasize oral practice and insist on the need to have regular contact with the language in order to progress. I encourage the learner to set a realistic and achievable goal according to the number of courses requested. I compare learning languages to playing a sport or a musical instrument, since the learning and the need for regular training are essentially the same.
