Before we learn anything, it helps to understand why we learn. Once we set clear goals, I identify what the student knows about the topic and what the missing pieces are. Sometimes it helps to understand the context that led to developments of ideas or concepts, but practice is key to proper understanding because it builds intuition. I encourage questions about and around the material, reflection, and active thinking about the problem. I tutor from high school to university level, and will adapt the topics depending on the level of the students and the skills they want to learn. Lessons last 1.5 or 2 hours and the approach is personalized to the needs of the student.
