Business English – a course based on either the Cambridge BEC vantage certificate or the Cambridge BEC Higher certificate. All course materials are entirely constructed from the original materials published by the examining board at Cambridge University.
Students will be expected to complete a reasonable amount of study as homework before participating in each class. The course covers the following legal areas:
corporate law
financial law
contract law
liability in law suits
patents and intellectual property
This is actually a number of courses. Each course is based upon original materials from the Cambridge examining bodies. The following exams are covered:
Preliminary English Test
First Certificate of English
Certificate of Advanced English
Certificate of Proficiency in English
Course Description:
The course is conducted entirely by e-mail, this ensures complete flexibility of the students’ time - no fixed day / time for lessons, so students can work whenever they want. Students improve their skills in written English by engaging in a highly focused step-by-step methodology which guarantees results. Four written exercises are assigned each month. The course can be structured for either business English / general English or a combination of the two.
Here’s how it works:
1. Each week the student receives instructions for a writing exercise.
2. The student sends their written exercise to the teacher for the first time.
3. The teacher highlights mistakes in the student’s writing using a special colour co-ordinated scheme to indicate mistakes in either grammar / spelling etc.
4. The student corrects their various mistakes and returns their writing to the teacher for a second time.
5. This time the teacher corrects any remaining mistakes using the ‘track changes’ function in MS Word so that the student can clearly see how their text has been corrected and make comparisons between their own writing and how this has been improved by the teacher.
Explore English literature from the 14th century to the 21st century. I have a library of graded readers covering all levels 1 - 6. There is everything from Geoffrey Chaucer to George Orwell via Shakespeare to explore.
Are you interested in horror? Then how about Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ or the ghost stories of M. R. James? Is romance what you like in literature? Then why not study ‘Sense and Sensibility’ by Jane Austen, or if you prefer your romance a bit more dramatic, then I would recommend ‘Wuthering Heights’ by Emily Brontë. If science fiction is more your taste, you will find H. G. Wells and Jules Verne in my collection. Is adventure what you are interested in? How about 'Jamaica Inn' by Daphne du Maurier. Politics? '1984' by George Orwell. Is comedy more your thing? In my library you will find ‘Three Men in a Boat’ by Jerome K. Jerome. Perhaps detective stories? I have the greatest of them all – Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. And of course, no library would be complete without the classic tales from Thomas Hardy and Charles Dickens.
When you learn English with some of the finest stories ever told, it helps to make everything you learn stay in your memory.
