It provides students with the basic notions of phonetic transcription and the set of symbols for transcribing English. The main emphasis is on acquiring the practical ability to make and hear differences between sounds and to identify common pronunciation problems. The specific aim of the course is to provide students with a solid foundation for the study of the sound patterns of English and to help them master the basic notions of phonetic transcription.
