My primary goal is to enable students to enjoy music to the fullest extent possible through achieving a stable technique on the clarinet whilst learning (if not already able to) to understand music and play in a stylistic and expressive way. As a performer myself I am always exploring new ways to achieve results and this very much informs my teaching style. With this, I aim to create an open environment where students feel they can ask questions, discuss outcomes and in that sense have autonomy over their learning. A sense of feeling guided and not dictated to, whether children or adults, beginner or advanced is central. I believe having a tangible and clear marker of progress is important so I do encourage pupils to work towards grade exams, though not essential!
