Flexibility is central to my approach, and I will adapt our lesson plans to your specific needs and objectives. I have a deep knowledge of Latin and Greek linguistics, and offer tuition to all levels from Beginner, through GCSE and A-Level, up to those studying Classics at university. In our first lesson, we'll get to know each other and discuss your objectives and style of learning - I want to understand how you like to learn, what you find easy, and what you find difficult. And from there, we'll develop a well-prepared, interesting and valuable lesson plan. If learning a language is the scariest thing in the world to you, don't worry! I will always be a friendly, patient and devoted tutor. I have experience tutoring students in 4 different languages over the past 5 years. I understand the importance of sympathy and patience in teaching, and will always be able to slow down or speed up the course of learning as required. Latin and Greek are not easy, but with an experienced and friendly teacher, it can be a brilliant experience! I'm happy to run lessons of any length, and at any frequency. At various times in my life I've personally tried to learn almost 20 different languages (though Latin and Greek remain my favourites!), so I know very well how it feels to be staring at a page full of weird-looking words, and not have a clue where to start. Helping people to cut through the chaos, and see the wild beauty of complex languages like Latin and Greek, is one of the most satisfying feelings I've had through my years of tutoring both children and adults. My mission as a tutor will always be more than just to build your ability in these languages, it will be to build your love of them as well.

Delve into the writings of the early Christian Church Fathers with this specialized course in Patristic Greek. Designed for students with a foundational knowledge of Koine Greek, this course offers an in-depth exploration of the language and theological concepts found in the texts of key patristic authors such as Athanasius, Gregory of Nyssa, and John Chrysostom. Other texts can be selected according to the student's interest. Through close reading and analysis of primary sources, you will gain proficiency in the unique linguistic characteristics of Patristic Greek, including its vocabulary, syntax, and stylistic nuances. The course emphasizes the theological, philosophical, and historical contexts of these writings, allowing you to engage with the doctrinal developments and ecclesiastical debates that shaped early Christianity. Course topics include the study of homilies, theological treatises, letters, and creeds, with a focus on understanding the exegetical methods and rhetorical strategies employed by the Church Fathers. Additionally, you will explore how Patristic Greek differs from the Koine Greek of the New Testament, and how it reflects the evolving intellectual and spiritual life of the early Church. Ideal for students of theology, church history, and classical studies, this course equips you with the skills to read and interpret Patristic texts in their original language, deepening your appreciation for the enduring legacy of the Church Fathers in Christian thought and tradition. At least some prior knowledge of Koine Greek required.

Trusted teacher: I am a native speaker of Greek. I graduated from a Greek high school and, later, the University of Athens where I attended courses in pedagogics, psychology, and linguistics. During our lessons, I'll help you develop your skills (oral/written, and not only). I'll also try to help you improve your pronunciation and spelling. I assign homework and after I receive it, correct it thoroughly additionally providing a lot of remarks/examples if they are necessary. I worked at a language center between 2009-2016 where I was a director of studies and taught mainly English as a foreign/second language. Since 2005, when I first started teaching Greek, I have taught children and adults on a variety of language proficiency levels, mainly individually. I constantly seek progress, meaning that I study further through reading books/articles concerning didactics/methodology and learning difficulties (chiefly dyslexia), observing other teachers as well as attending seminars (online or face-to-face). During my lessons I use : - Skype/Whatsapp/Messenger to connect with you, - Google Docs to keep notes, which you can check at any time and they are yours to keep, - sketch board me to make mind maps to show connections between ideas, etc. - books, PPP, word docs, diagrams, pics, etc. - pronunciation/spelling/grammar games, - authentic materials were taken from websites. I adore my profession and desire each and every one of my students be satisfied with the lesson. That's why I make sure the atmosphere is stress-free and nice. I also want my lessons to be as effective and close to real-life needs as possible. Therefore, I make sure they are well-prepared, although they can be altered at any point, should such an opportunity arise. I like explaining things in a variety of ways as well as make use of dictionaries, diagrams, etc. When it comes to students who want to obtain certificates, I am very demanding. What can I teach? - I would love to help you improve/develop all language skills (speaking/writing-listening/reading + grammar/vocabulary/pronunciation), - I would love to help you prepare for state certificates such as A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. - I would love to help you with homework and assignments (literature, history) from school and university (but please contact me about that IN ADVANCE). Regarding Ancient Greek, I can help you with commentaries/translations/grammar/syntax: - Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, - Homer, Aeschylus, Euripides, Sophocles, Sappho, - Herodotus, Thucydides, Xenophon.

Justyna
Justyna is a graduate of the University of Athens and she is very much qualified to deliver Greek courses. She has great teaching skills and more than 10 years of experience in teaching the Greek language. Her communication skills are also commendable, and she can find the appropriate way to establish a very effective communication with the pupil. She is very meticulous and attentive to detail and she speaks always in a positive tone. The quality of her work is impeccable, and she has also elaborated here own teaching material (for example, PowerPoint presentations) to facilitate the on-line courses. I was very much surprised to see that even the Greek sounds of letters in her PowerPoint file were created with her own voice! With regard to the online courses, she has also the right technical skills to use the various online tools and software (e.g. Google tools), something which is not evident when working with other teachers. She is very flexible in terms of the time of the courses and she is accepting the various time constraints which may derive from the day-to-day schedule of the pupil. She is always in time for her courses and very accessible as well as reliable concerning all the necessary arrangements. In terms of attitude, she is very enthusiastic, an element which has a great impact on the pupil to actively follow up her during the whole duration of the course. She is also very dynamic in the way she delivers the courses, and she does not forget to praise the pupil when necessary. She is always assertive, independently of the learning pace of the pupil. Last but not least, I think she has the right ratio of humour in her courses in order to make the one hour passing with her as pleasant as possible. I highly recommend her from my experience so far.

Margarita
Margarita has shown exceptional professionalism and her immense knowledge of the Greek. She adapts the curriculum based on the needs and the priorities of the student so they can start speaking Greek as soon as possible. In case some particular quirky aspect of the Greek language troubles you, Margarita will put an extra effort into helping you to understand it. She is also quite flexible with the schedule, which is great because it lets me keep learning the Greek as an after work activity. I'm very pleased with Margarita as a Greek tutor.

Serdane
Serdane is a wonderful teacher. Although my daughter learnt French at school she was very unconfident. Serdane was very sympathetic and gave her interesting material to read, discuss and to learn in class. She also went back to the basics which my daughter had missed out on at school and eventually my daughter graduated with 8.8 in French at the European BAC!
