Trusted teacher: Approach to Teaching – I favour a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catered to the student's specific needs. – Violin lessons tend to be carefully planned to focus on specific technical aspects of performance. To train musicality, I often teach this through the use of Kreutzer and Fiorillo etudes, Dont studies, and also pieces of repertoire catered to the student's musical interests and technical requirements. – I am open to considering student repertoire suggestions if they are particularly passionate about a certain piece. Lesson Structure – Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters for a student's requirements. Credentials – I am a Musicology PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge. – I have worked as a private violin teacher for 7 years (since I was 17). I have taught a variety of students, from beginners starting their instrumental training, to more advanced performers looking to improve their technical facility and performance skills. – I have performed at West Road Concert Hall (University of Cambridge), The Lee Tseng Hall (Wolfson College Cambridge), Buxton International Festival, Manchester International Festival, and The Bridgewater Hall. – I have an extensive portfolio of performing credits on documentary films; recent highlights include the docuseries on Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein 'House of Maxwell' (BBC2, 2022), and 'Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In' (Netflix) (Passion Pictures / Universal Pictures) (2021). Performance Credits: Soundtrack: House of Maxwell (BBC2) (2022) *Score nominated for BAFTA award Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In (Netflix) (Passion Pictures / Universal Pictures) (2021) The Schnoz (Premiered at the Jewish Film Festival 2020) The Chillenden Murders (BBC2) (2017) The Five Wives & Lives Of Melvyn Pfferberg (2016) Conviction: Murder At the Station (BBC2) (2016) Charlie Hebdo: 3 Days That Shook Paris (Channel 4) (2015) Being AP (BBC + Toronto Film Festival) (2015) The Battle for Marjah (HBO) (2012) Popular Music Releases: Grasscut – Human Estuary / The Garden / Witley Common (2021) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – Coprolite Tip / Courage Traveller / Edges Of Night (2021) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – September's Night Sky (2015) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – Beacon (2014) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – Pieces (2012) (Ninja Tune) Essa Weira – Glimpse (2020) Jaga Jazzist – Toccata (Grasscut remix) (2010) (Ninja Tune xx Vol. 2) (Ninja Tune) – I hold an MPhil(Cantab) in Music from the University of Cambridge, where I specialised in Historical Musicology and Aesthetics. – I led the University of Cambridge Experimental Music Ensemble (CUEME) during my MPhil year – I have a first-class music degree (74.4%) from the University of Manchester, where I won three Hargreaves Prizes for Academic Achievement. – I achieved a distinction (92%) in my ATCL Diploma in violin performance, and a First (78%) in my final violin recital for my undergraduate degree. – I have worked as an Assistant Music Teacher, which involved teaching to A-Level Music students. Trusted teacher: Today, the violin has become one of the most popular and versatile of all musical instruments. Apart from classical, and, in France, gypsy swing, which remain his areas of predilection, he has introduced himself everywhere, into jazz, pop, electro, etc. However, at the beginning of the initiation, the basics remain more or less the same, in all styles. Everyone obviously has their own rhythm and these particular ambitions: I have students who practice for several hours every day, and others who only play once or twice a week, outside of class. I assume that almost anything is possible, provided you have the right learning methods. First, we will define, as precisely as possible, your objective. What style do you want to learn? Which artist inspires you and makes you want to learn the violin? What is your level of musicality, have you ever played the violin or other instruments? And finally, how much time do you want to devote to the violin? After having collected this information, I will offer you a suitable program, made up of technical exercises, training pieces, "objective" pieces, and also, which is often neglected, listening advice (such as when learning a language, you learn a lot by listening...). Also note that it is possible to play works that seem difficult, by tackling simplified versions. At the end of each course I send you a detailed report of what we have worked on, what has been accomplished and what remains to be worked on/corrected (without pressure, without stress, of course.. .;)) Teacher's presentation Coming from a family of violinists, I received my first violin lessons from my father at 4 years old. Now a graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatory and the CMDL Didier Lockwood, I have been giving violin lessons for around twenty years. Passionate about transmitting, I teach a wide variety of styles, classical, jazz, gypsy swing, Latin, gypsy and traditional music, film music... We look forward to accompanying you from the discovery of the instrument to your first concerts... See you soon ! Musically, Simon

Trusted teacher: My classes are held online around the world. I can teach in English, Spanish, Russian, Italian, French, German or Portuguese. I am a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory in Russia where I lived, studied music and arts and worked as a ballet teacher, languages and music teacher. I have professional equipment such as cameras in different positions and degrees since it is essential that the student has different optics of both the piano and my body posture. We start with music theory and practice at the same time choosing pieces of preference for the student. The real objective of the class goes beyond the music per se ... but rather a spiritual-intellectual integration which results in genius through music! Music is the hook to touch the soul. Russian piano education focuses on fewer, more challenging pieces. The music will be learnt from memory and much of the learning is done through teacher demonstration. - Solfeggio First of all, what is solfeggio? Also known as 'solfège', solfeggio (sometimes called sight-singing) is the ability to read and sing music at sight. You may have heard this phrase before: 'Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do'. This is a method used to help musicians sight-sing. The Russian piano teaching method is often complemented by the use of solfeggio, and it is commonplace that when Russian teachers do use it, they use the fixed do, meaning C is always do, regardless of the key. With the British piano teaching method, solfeggio is less commonly used, and when it is, moveable do (the tonic is do) is used. As you can probably decipher, this makes the Russian method of using solfeggio much more challenging. - Attitude Without wanting to cast a generalisation across Russia, their learning method has been known for strictness, discipline and controversy. It leaves many wondering: Is the Russian way of learning the piano more demanding? Frequently, Russian piano teachers I work with joke about the harshness of teachers in their youth. The method is trying to achieve excellence in piano playing, but encouragement and discipline are used to varying degrees. I mix my adventuress, feisty, serious, exotic, disciplined and wild personality and the outcome are my classes!

Ana - Belgrade, Serbia£29
Trusted teacher: Hello, I'm Ana and I'm a graduated violist, a permanent member of Symphony orchestra "Stanislav Binicki" in Belgrade, Serbia. Before passing the audition in an orchestra in January of 2017, I was a professor of viola and violin in a special boarding school for musically gifted children "Skola za muzicke talente Cuprija", for five years. The school is founded and lead by the "Academy of music arts" in Belgrade. There are three schools in the world of that kind: in London, Moscow, and Serbia. My students got 25 1st and few 2nd awards in the republic and international competitions, and all of them signed in to desired academies in Germany, Canada and Serbia as first on the list and with full scholarships. We still keep in touch :) I was a member of the Royal chamber orchestra St. George for four years and took part in many world tours. I played also in National Radio and Television Orchestra in Serbia, Orchestra of National theater of Serbia, National Symphony orchestra of Montenegro and National Symphony orchestra in Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I was a member of orchestras which took part in projects "Bridges for the future" in Bern, Switzerland, “Festival Junger Kunstler”, Bayreuth, Germany, “Deutsch-Skandinavischen Jungend-Philharmonie” in Berlin, “Music days international festival” in Russe, Bulgaria, etc. I am currently a Ph.D. student in the 3rd year of studies in Management for culture and media, on the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Belgrade. I tend to explain to students as simple and as effective as possible. My students enjoy classes, love to play and ask many questions :) I insist on good technique and posture because even if it takes a little bit more time in the beginning, it makes future progress easy and fast.

Trusted teacher: Hello, my name is Alex and I am a certified Violin teacher of 7 years. Additionally to my teaching passion, I have performed in Carnegie Hall, Chicago Orchestra Hall, Sydney Opera House, among others, with orchestras including Classical Symphony Orchestra, Paderewski Symphony Orchestra and Protege Philharmonic. I have performed with chamber groups including the Cras Trio and 20+ Modern Ensemble. I currently teach violin face-to-face in Bordeaux, France and Angouleme, France. I also work with students online who would like to recieve extra practice prior to orchestra auditions or competitions. I have an active music company Violin Inc. that creates music opportunities and concerts for amateur musicians. It also provides educational lessons specifically for violin learning, using Suzuki and ABRSM methods with a mixture of American and European techniques. * Learning violin online does cause extra obstacles, but I assure you it is possible with the right tools and patience. My teaching methodology is created with a mixture of several music methods that suit each individual independently. We create the music method so that it suits your needs and helps you grow consistently. I enjoy teaching classical music and classic-pop music. I believe in note reading as an essential part of violin training, so reading music and understanding simple theory is always included during lessons. If it has been your dream to pick up the violin again or start from the beginning, I would be happy to help you on your journey. I am opened to your thoughts and ideas about what you would like to learn and your goals with the violin. Then, we will be able to form the best approach to violin lessons that will help you progress in a quick and enjoyable way! Although the violin is an exceptionally challenging instrument to learn, with the right tools and materials, you will be able to learn this instrument in a fast-paced setting.

Christian
I recently started taking violin lessons from Christian. As someone who has 0 experience with the violin, or any other instrument for that matter, I was a bit nervous but excited. Despite my total lack of experience, Christian is incredibly patient, he never rushes me and always takes the time to answer my questions, no matter how basic. We started with the absolute basics, which is exactly what I needed. He finds a way to explain complicated things in a way that makes sense to me, which makes the whole process less intimidating. His teaching style is perfect for someone like me, coming into music with no background. I wholeheartedly recommend Christian to anyone who's been thinking about picking up the violin! His patience, expertise, insightfulness and supportive nature have made my start in music both enjoyable and fulfilling. Bonus points for speaking English.

Daniel
My first lesson with Daniel was just what I wanted and more. Daniel made me feel very comfortable and let me play some music I had been working on. Then Daniel looked at all aspects of my playing in a thorough manner and signposted plans for future lessons. I was really wanting my technique to be reviewed thoroughly and Daniel did exactly this, in a very supportive and encouraging manner. It was incredible to hear the change to my playing Daniel helped me make within the hour. Looking forward to the next lesson! Many thanks!
