I believe in developing music-reading as well as ear-training skills in my student’s music education. I work hard to tailor each lesson to meet the individual student’s musical goals, level and learning style. I have experience teaching students from age 3 to adult and from absolute beginner to college-level students. As a conservatory trained violinist, I teach a solid foundation in violin technique, theory and repertoire. I currently maintain a private violin studio in Yokohama and one in my home in Kawasaki. I can teach in both English and Japanese. Learning to play the violin is a lifelong process. Music can lead us to new opportunities, meet interesting people and travel to unique places. Everyone can learn to play the violin. It is never too late to start! I look forward to being a part of you or your child’s musical journey. More about me: Born in 1998, Virginia started learning violin at the age of 3, under the tutelage of under Ms Beedarn Chao and Ms Rosa Lam. In 2013, she attained DipABRSM in violin performance and Grade 8 piano one year later. In 2018, Virginia graduated from King’s College London with a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours), under the sponsorship of the “King’s Hong Kong Scholarships” At KCL, she studied violin with tutors from the Royal Academy of Music - Mr. Nicolas Dupont and Ms Georgia Hannant. She also studied composition with Professor Silvina Milstein, Robert Keeley and Dr. Edward Nesbit. Her works have been performed by UK professional musicians and ensembles such as Clare McCaldin and Lontano Ensemble. Since university, Virginia has been actively teaching primary to form 6 students at King’s St George’s Music Academy (London) and Sevenoaks School, one of the top 5 UK boarding schools. Aiming to branch out in the field of music, Virginia has took up various arts administration and marketing positions in leading ensembles such as the English Music Festival, London City Philharmonic and more since 2016.

I am a professional violin player, with over 40 years of experience and I have been actively performing on Japan's elite music arena. The very unique element of my violin lessons is that unlike other music schools, you will learn how to play violin from a professional musician who is active in Tokyo’s music scene. I also offer students special insight into performance, such as how to interact with the public or how to convey emotion to your audience. I have 10 years of experience in teaching music both in Japan and my native country, Romania. I offer four types of courses: 1) Introduction Program: My first notes for complete beginners (children or adults) where I teach violin fundamentals. 2) Basic Program for violin beginners and for intermediate violin players who wish to refresh their technical skills. Some of the techniques taught in this program are bow fundamentals, advanced bowing, vibrato, color, and tones, posture, etc. 3) Custom Program: for any type of student, especially when preparing for a music competition, a concert or whether you wish to improve a specific part of your violin technique. 4) Special Program: Gypsy Violin Sound for learning all the valuable insights of the Gypsy style that I acquired throughout his long career as a Django jazz musician. I studied the violin for about 2 months with Fermin and I have grown much in my knowledge of not just how to play but how to think when playing. Fermin has also helped a lot with technical struggles allowing me to break through some of the challenges that were bothering me for a long time. He is a very patient teacher but he will not hesitate to stop you and correct you (as any good teacher would) if you are not playing correctly. I personally requested that he gives me honest feedback which really helped me play better tecnically and musically. I believe he will be open to adapting his strictness upon specific requests. The time difference (Fermin being in Spain and I being in the US) has not been easy but Fermin was very willing to bend his schedule and provided several time slots to accommodate my availability. To sum up, if you are looking for a teacher that is patient in character yet unrelenting toward the goal of fully tapping your potential both musically and tecnically, I would recommend you take a lesson with Fermin.

If you’re looking for an excellent violin teacher in Korea, Dr. Yu is a great choice. She speaks perfect English, which is incredibly helpful for us foreigners, and her studio in Gangnam is very convenient. Dr. Yu is highly professional and talented, and she genuinely cares about helping her students succeed. Her lessons are both engaging and effective, making learning the violin a rewarding experience. Plus, there are two recitals each year that are a lot of fun to participate in. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their skills.
