Don't worry about making mistakes; By making mistakes and learning from them, you even become better. Repetition is an important part of my lessons. I often go back to check if you remember what was introduced in previous lessons. Before we start our lessons, I want to know your reasons for learning Spanish. If you already have some knowledge of Spanish, I will determine your exact level. Once I know your needs, interests, and level, I can select the right materials and design the right course for you. I find it better to work with a textbook to give structure to the lessons. I also use videos, slides, worksheets, and other teaching materials. If you like, I can also email you exercises and resources so you can continue learning independently. Our lessons can be online (as per Zoom), I can come to your home (and Haarlem, Velserbroek, Santport-Noord, Driehuis or Heemstede). It’s 45 years since I either studied or spoke Spanish and I am delighted to have met such a personable tutor who I feel will really help me regain the confidence to use the language again. Javier was keen to know what I wanted to get out of the lessons so that he could meet those requirements. He has suggested a structure tailor made to my needs. This is exactly why I didn’t enrol in an evening class as I feel working with an individual tutor will help me improve much more quickly.

Great communicator, accomodaing pace and very good grasp of the teaching approach. I love it! I have just finished 10 sessions with Javier and I am already renewing, my focus is on getting comfortable speaking in Spanish and using what I have learned. Javier is a wealth of knowledge and can engage the student in any subject ( culture, history, liteature..etc) I am very happy with the classes and highly recommend my instructor!

I thoroughly enjoyed my first lesson with Alvaro. He made me feel very comfortable throughout the lesson and I found myself trying to speak more in Spanish than ever before. That is fantastic as I'm so hesitant with my limited knowledge. He gently guided me through my mistakes and I feel that I learned more in that 1 hour than I have in months and months of trying to learn. I'm looking forward to continuing with Alvaro
