It is also holistic (aimed at the student's cognitive and emotional dimension) and focused (we set small weekly goals). This means that learning a foreign language is not treated as something detached from the cultural context of the language, that is, I do not encourage cutting-edge grammar and vocabulary learning but combining them through thematic learning. For this reason, from the first lesson, the learner comes into contact with contextualized, rich vocabulary and basic grammar and is able to express basic sentences. Finally, my philosophy is based on "constructivism" a learning-teaching model where learning is progressively built, with each piece of new knowledge repeating and deepening the former, thus building new cognitive shapes. When I asked my two teenagers (19 & 17) what their favorite part of our recent month in Spain was, both of them independently said that their Spanish lessons with Miguel were a highlight. We are complete beginners as native English speakers from Australia and we all had a lot of fun learning from Miguel as a family. We met in the relaxed atmosphere of a lovely café in Russafa. He showed up prepared for lessons and happily answered the many questions my son and daughter had - not just about language but also about Spanish culture. He helped us distinguish between different types / localities when it comes to Spanish. He built our confidence to use what we had learned. He practised with us as we learned. And he encouraged our curiosity. Miguel is a lovely, kind man and we look forward to continuing our lessons with him online now that we are back in Aus. Carlos is an amazing teacher! I have learned more studying with him in a few months then I have learned in a year with other teachers. He is patient, knowledgeable and organized. We have good conversations and he really knows how to activate the language and give confidence to his students. For more basic students like myself it's very useful that he can speak other languages so well, although we use mostly Spanish in our lessons. He is simply the best!
