I am a professional classical singer and teacher based in Catford. With over ten years of experience, I am passionate about teaching singing at any level, from absolute beginners to more advanced performers who are considering a career in the world of music and performing arts. I studied for 6 years at the Royal College of Music, London both as an undergraduate and Masters student. I graduated with Distinction in July 2017 and since then have kept myself busy working as a performer and teacher. For the last ten years I have been teaching both on a one to one basis and in group sessions. As well as teaching private pupils of all ages, I have worked as a vocal coach for various theatre companies, for performing arts centres such as Stagecoach and also as a peripatetic singing teacher in various schools. I feel delighted to be able to work with aspiring singers of all ages, backgrounds and experience, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching at every level. I believe that singing is wonderful for the soul and a fantastic way to engage your mind and body. It’s so exciting for me as a teacher to help a student along on their music journey and to see them unlock their potential. Music is a powerful force and there is honestly nothing better than seeing the positive impact it has on people. I encourage my students to maintain a goal; something to work towards whether it’s finally getting up and singing at an open mic, preparing for an exam, auditioning for a production or putting on a recital! I believe that everyone has a voice and that nobody should ever feel discouraged from making it heard and I pledge as a teacher to help each pupil discover their own identity within the world of song. As an accomplished pianist I also accompany my students in their lessons. I strive to help singers who want to improve their singing technique, prepare for an audition or performance, be a more confident performer, expand their repertoire or just sing for pleasure and to have fun! I believe that firmness and fairness is key to helping a pupil along the way and that a down to earth 'can do' attitude from both teacher and pupil can make all the difference. I have a piano at home and prefer to accompany my students in their lessons so please take this into consideration if you do not have access to a piano at home!

Interested in growing and strengthening your vocal talent? Internationally acclaimed teacher, tenor, and Tony Award Winner, Jesus Garcia, has opened a voice studio here in Philadelphia, and teaches a range of styles, including Classical, Musical Theater, Jazz, Rock, Pop, and Folk. Mr. Garcia is a protege of famed teacher, Bill Schuman. Other notable teachers have included Dr. Stephen King at Rice University, and Dr. Pattye Johnstone at the University of North Texas. Having worked with singers, coaches, and conductors all over the world, Jesus brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his work with artists. "In my work with singers, I consider myself an intuitive pedagogue and technician above all else. No two singers are the same, and I believe in a tailored approach to each individual. I have studied and been taught in the Italian Bel Canto school of singing, and believe that the goal of vocal study is to help the singer become aware of and release any habits that are counter-intuitive to healthy, natural production. Many singers come to me for vocal rehabilitation and realignment. Good singing is actually born of quite simple foundational techniques, and in lessons we work to move toward the natural expression of the voice. We start with the foundational tenets of technique: support mechanism, palate and laryngeal position, tongue and jaw relaxation, and then move through the vowels, assuring all is clean, streamlined, and natural. Singing should be joyful, not stressful, and when a singer has a solid technique to rely on, they can relax and set about the joy of full artistic expression."

Find your singing voice. A safe and natural technique to sing classical, opera and music theatre. (Cheste)
Lynette
I have taken my first lesson with Lynette and it was a great experience. I have been singing for some time at a choir, but have no formal training and want to learn the fundamental technique, and also work on some of the pieces we sing at the choir. The lesson was very practical, dynamic and she pays great attention to detail. After the class I could feel the improvement on the areas we have covered and felt much more confident on my skills. Highly recommended!

Denise
Mrs. Denise has demonstrated passion, mastery and, above all, great versatility as a teacher. She has skillfully recaptured the spirit of a Medieval song with imaginative vocal intensity, while discussing in great detail the lyrical content, linguistic nuances, and the historical context of the song, as well as guiding me through the intricacies of the Occitan language with confidence and poise.

Singing lessons with an italian lyric-coloratura soprano. From opera to modern and pop. (Masters degree in singing with honours, cum Laude)
Georgia
As someone who loves singing it was very helpful in the very first lesson to begin to understand the muscles I need to use and the "spaces" I need to create to stabilise and improve my sound. I also felt she responded well to each question I raised, or issue she heard in the way I did the excercises. I look forward to future lessons.
