Trusted teacher: ¡Hola!

Trusted teacher: I am Jessica, a dedicated and enthusiastic tutor in my final year studying for a mathematics and statistics degree. My journey has been marked by a commitment to personal growth, a love for learning, and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others. My background is rich with experiences that have prepared me for the challenges and rewards of tutoring. I have worked in many tutoring roles, and have been a part of a community charity group, where I honed my skills in communication, organisation, and empathy. These experiences have not only equipped me with practical skills but also reinforced my belief in the transformative power of education As a student myself, I recognise the need for a tutor that understands you as a learner, and the various different methods of learning you may prefer. I understand the frustration students may feel when they may not grasp a concept, and I understand the delight of finally understanding after working hard to get there. I am passionate about empowering students through these emotions, with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life. I am a mentor who encourages critical thinking, creativity, and cultivates a lifelong love for learning. I am driven by the desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my students. I believe that every student has unique strengths and potential, and as a tutor, I want to help them develop these qualities. For each session, I will create a one hour tailored lesson plan based on the individual specifications for the subject and exam board. For example, if a student is studying A level maths for Edexcel, and for example they wanted to study graph transformations, I would plan the lesson based on specification points and include everything that could be included in exams. Exam questions also play a vital part of my sessions as I believe that practice questions are the best way of learning. Being a current student myself at university brings me the knowledge of methods of how different students may prefer to learn. Throughout my sessions, I use a virtual drawing pad in order to engage students with the content that we are covering. In order to help them, I can do drawings, mind maps or any other method of learning that works for them - I get to know my students in order to implement their preferred style of learning. One particular thing I like to do is put an exam style question on screen, and talk through that question, including the student and encouraging them to help along this question. Encouragement and positive words are also extremely important in helping the student gain confidence. An essential part of my sessions is interacting with the students and ensuring they aren’t too anxious to speak up or ask any questions regarding the covered content.
