These classes are designed to help you achieve your individual goals. My aim will be to keep you motivated and engaged to learn and practice English during and outside of the lesson. You will develop skills to help you communicate like native English speakers. I will do this in a variety of ways, adopting different teaching techniques and tools from (pictures, games, activities, videos, podcasts, music, books, newspaper articles) making the lessons interesting and dynamic. Lesson plans will be created based on your individual goals, age, level and interests. Homework will be set regularly and balanced to avoid overwhelming students. Lessons with me will enable you to develop skills in: reading, comprehension, pronunciation, vocabulary, creative writing, writing including in a Business context (emails, reports etc.), conversational skills to improve fluency. Classes will be tailored for all age-groups and levels, including young learners. To give you the optimal learning experience, I will offer flexibility and personalised approach to meet your individual needs. You do not need to worry about how much or how little you know before learning with me. My professional background in HR and IT Project Management over the last 24 years, means I will listen to you and we will work together to make your learning journey enjoyable. Since early 2021, I have dedicated my time to volunteering to support children aged between 5 -10 years with basic literacy skills across England. This has included non-native speakers as well those children who might be behind the required levels. I have delivered nearly 140 reading sessions online during 2024 with a number of schools. My passion for teaching young learners in particular has grown to ensure everyone has a good start in life, communicating in a language which is recognised globally. Whether you are only starting to learn the wild-looking letters of the Cyrillic alphabet, or whether you are looking to practise your written and spoken Russian, I would be delighted to accompany you at any stage of your Russian-learning journey. For more advanced students, I would be happy to help you get to know one of the most defining aspects of the Russian language, namely its novels and poetry, which would be a great way to learn about the 'mysterious' Russian soul. I believe that studying in three different countries have allowed me to try out and assess various approaches to education in general and teaching languages in particular - from the rigourous Russian system based on ensuring that the students will obtain exceptional spelling, grammar, syntax and punctuation skills, to the more relaxed yet more critical and analytical Western approach, focused on problem-solving and independent work. You will get the benefit of a vast bank of techniques, methods and learning materials that I have developed and accumulated over the past year will be used in class to pique and maintain your interest. And since I was once a language student too, I would be able to share my personal tips and tricks with you to help you reach whatever goal you have set for yourself - be it being able to wow your friends and family by reciting a poem in the language of Dostoyevski, or impressing your future collegues with the thorough knowledge of Russian current affairs in their mother tongue!

Trusted teacher: My Psychology degree and 9 years of experience working with children with Neuro-divergence and additional educational needs prior to teaching have significantly shaped my approach to teaching. I prioritise relationship building and trust with students and their caregivers. I am patient, kind, and incredibly encouraging but have high expectations. I work with students for them to also gain high expectations in themselves. This may happen in the first few sessions or may take a longer period of time depending on the student. I help students gain high expectations for themselves by initially giving tasks where they are guaranteed success, then celebrating and reflecting on this success and how they were able to use the skills taught and their effort to complete the task. This builds a persons confidence and significantly increases the likelihood of attempting more difficult tasks. This is heavily proven by research (and seen in my classroom daily) known as the “theory of self efficacy” and the “theory of planned behaviour”. If a person does not believe a task is within their capability, they are incredibly unlikely to even attempt it (No matter how much we believe they can do it). It is my job to SHOW students they can do it by designing tasks and lessons in a way that they feel challenged finish with pride in their achievements. When teaching new skills I will show them first, then we will complete a task together, then they will apply the skills independently. I will be constantly assessing as they work independently and provide support where necessary. The ultimate goal is to phase back my support until they are using the taught skills correctly, consistently, confidently and independently. Lessons will vary depending on students needs. If caregivers want to spend a percentage of the lesson to discuss, that will be agreed upon. If there are specific targets you want me to cover then we can dedicate time for you to tell me these expectations. If you would prefer me to assess your student and gage where the gaps are and plan accordingly, that is also ok. I would suggest an initial session to meet, and discuss goals. Having worked in secondary schools before, I have seen how much students are required to read and write in all lessons, but there will not be opportunities to learn these fundamental skills at school.
