Are you thinking of writing but having trouble how to start? Have you started writing but seem to have blocks that are stopping you continuing what you’ve started? Or do you feel shy about sharing your creative writing and want to take the next steps? I’ve successfully helped mentor people on their journey into creative writing and in the classes we will take the journey looking at ways to help overcome obstacles that might be stopping or blocking your progresses, or helping you to continue writing you may have started. We will do this with a mixture of looking at your work and thinking of strategies to help you overcome any potential blocks. Although I have a particular interest in writing for plays, (I am a playwright and published poet), this class is for also for those wanting write creatively.

If you need expert support in your creative writing, whether it's turning that idea into the screenplay you've always dreamed of, or improving your confidence in your writing voice, this class is perfect for you. Each class will be tailored to you and your needs, so that you are both supported and challenged. You are in good hands! I have a Diploma in Script Development from the National Film and Television School, one of the top five international films schools. I graduated with a First Class Honors in English Literature and Creative Writing, specializing in fiction and screenwriting. I have worked for the BBC for years in scripted television, as well as other major London production companies.

I am a former police detective who once worked with victims and witnesses of crime. In 1999 I was awarded the Maryland Governor’s Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Contributions in the Field of Victim/Witness Services. Fond of true crime, I enjoy advocating through storytelling by giving voice to the dead, ignored, and oppressed. My purpose in writing has always been to champion social impact narratives, provoke thought, and effect change for representatives of the BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color) community(ies). As a U.S.National Finalist in the Coverfly Screencraft Virtual Pitch Spring 2022 and again in Fall 2023, I am now in the nascent statges of completing my first manuscript for a creative non-fiction book due to be self-published Winter 2024. I would enjoy nothing more than to lend my experience in helping you achieve your goals and the results you so desire.

About our coach To be sure: our head coach is at home in all markets. He wrote his first book, the science fantasy Ice, the Lost Planet, when he was 11. The novel was published three years later, which earned Dirk his city's cultural merit prize and items on almost all national TV and radio stations, as well as articles in every leading newspaper and a large number of magazines. Dirk later also became the very first Flemish author whose books he himself had pinned in English were published by American publishers: Fates Worse than Death: Hunter by Vajra Enterprises and Baour, Strands of Death by BlackWyrm Publishing. Dirk wrote hundreds of press releases for PR agency Oskaar and later for his own PR agency, Badass PR - mainly for films, television series, the hospitality industry and various charities. He also provides numerous newsletters and social media for his clients. Dirk has been a coach since he was twenty – when he was still studying psychology at the KUL – and has written several film and short film scripts as an acting teacher and screenwriter. Numerous radio spots have also rolled out of his brain. The most startling assignment, however, came when Modiphius Entertainment – the largest independent producer and distributor of role-playing games in the world – hired him to write the film script and audio play for Achtung! Cthulhu to write. They were so well received that he is currently reading the complete audio series of Achtung! Cthulhu is finishing. In addition, he is busy working on Iron Sky: The Roleplaying Game, which has been delayed considerably due to the fact that the second film was released much later than expected, production problems, the death of one of the two lead writers and the corona crisis. , but will be released next year at the largest role-playing convention in the world, Gen Con in Indianapolis. Als theaterauteur houd ik me ook bezig met hoe een tekst klinkt - klinkt het niet prettig, dan kan hij vast beter geschreven worden. Als coach richt ik me vooral op het geven van feedback op de teksten die je schrijft en help ik je graag op weg met opdrachten om te beginnen met schrijven en/of om het gevreesde writersblock af te schudden. This class is for anyone who want to gain the foundational skills necessary for theatrical storytelling. Depending on your goals, we can focus on working your way towards a polished short play or stick to exercises that exemplify the learning process. As a practicing playwright and screenwriter, I am intimately familiar with the process of narrative storytelling. I received my MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts and B.A. in Theatre from Middlebury College in Vermont. My screenplays have won awards at the Swedish International Film Festival and the Athena Film Festival. Meanwhile my most recent short play, 9.5, won the Theatre Masters Take Ten Festival and was published by Samuel French/Concord Theatricals.

Using my wealth of experience in creative writing, production and publishing, I will teach you everything you'll need to know about your chosen area of writing, from turning an idea into a plan, right up to getting the finished article out there. I can help to bring your poetry to life, teach you the fundamentals of publishing a short story, or even help you to self-produce a play. I prefer a collaborative approach to teaching, where student and teacher work together to bring out each others potential. I like to tailor the sessions to their interests, getting a flowing conversation and finding the core of the students needs. I feel it's most important to develop a learning plan around the student.

I am an experienced teacher and writer with a PhD in Shakespeare Studies. I am offering lessons in literature and theatre to help with understanding, reading and writing. I'm a professional theatre director, writer & teacher with 10 years experience in education & West End theatre. Previous credits include: Fiddler on the Roof (Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival); West Side Story; Macbeth; Top Hat; Bridges of Madison County' God of Carnage; Twelfth Night; She Loves Me; The Tempest This summer I was Children's Director and Associate Director to Sir Trevor Nunn on the smash hit musical of 'The Parent Trap', 'Identical', from the producers of 'Six'. I have directed several professional productions for the Young Shakespeare Company & run storytelling workshops for them around the country. I have also taught one-to-one and in drama schools including ArtsEd and Central School of Speech and Drama and at youth programmes such as BYMT, NYT, Stagebox, London Theatre Runway & Role Models. As a writer, my new pop-rock musical 'babies' is currently in commercial development with West End producers. I pride myself on getting the best out of people - performers, writers, students. This workshop will give you all the practical tools to aid your writing as well as giving you vital industry advice on how to best approach the theatre, film and television industries. Whilst talking about structure, character and dialogue, you’ll also learn how to use your own stories and tackle burning issues with confidence, experimentation and comedy. There will also be lots of discussions about the theatre industry itself, dispelling myths about an otherwise intimidating industry. Simple, constructive advice on how different theatres work, which courses to take next, different universities and simple advice on how to get your work staged and seen (without bankrupting yourself), as well as conversations about the TV and Film industry. Simply, this course will equip budding, passionate writers with the skills and knowledge they need to kick-start their script writing career and steer them in the right direction. The workshop will be led a playwright who has led similar groups for several years. This workshop is open to all writers with previous experience who are hoping to have their work staged. Max Max has been a recipient of the Peggy Ramsay Foundation, Screen to Screen Award, a finalist for the Papatango Prize, Theatre Uncut’s Prize for Political Writing and recently, the Nick Darke Award. He’s also collaborated with the Wooster Group in NYC, The English Theatre Berlin and the British Museum as a dramaturg. He’s had plays produced at Theatre 503, King’s Head Theatre, the Arcola, Paines Plough and many others across London as well as running playwriting workshops with The Yard, Flux, The Actor’s Centre, The Gate and the Southwark Playhouse.
