Discovery & Deepening of the History of Art

Do you love Italian people, history, and food and you would like to speak the language? I am a CEDILS-certified Italian teacher born and raised in Florence, and I've also been a language student myself for a long time! If you want to be able to interact with Italians quickly, I can give you some tips about correct pronunciation, fundamental grammar, and vocabulary, but also Italian art and popular culture, which I think is fundamental to understanding the mentality and the country that you are going to interact with. Lessons will be tailored according to the student's needs, level, and mother language and focused on the conversation. I am also available to proofread your writings.

This course offers an in-depth exploration of painting, with an emphasis on the techniques, styles, and artistic movements that have marked the history of art. Intended for students of all levels, the course combines practical painting sessions with theoretical studies of iconic works, allowing participants to draw inspiration from old and contemporary masters to develop their own style. Currently studying art history at the École du Louvre, and having studied in prestigious schools such as the École Olivier de Serres, I am a creator-researcher in contemporary art, specializing in culinary design, which enriches my pedagogical approach with a unique interdisciplinary perspective. Students will learn to master various painting techniques, such as oil, acrylic, and watercolor, while discovering how these mediums have evolved over the centuries, techniques that I learned in particular during my professional experience in the museographic workshops (decoration painting) of the Louvre Museum. In parallel, discussions and analyses of works of art will allow us to situate the practice of painting in a broader historical and cultural context.

History is the vector that allows us to better understand our society, the world in which we live. It is essential for general culture. The level of the course will adapt to the level of the student, from primary to university. It is also possible to adapt it in relation to an exam or competition to be taken, or to a person wishing to complete their general knowledge on a particular subject.

With a master's degree in Language, Literature and Civilization of the English-Speaking World, I took a large number of courses in history, art history and of course languages, literature and translation during my studies at the universities of Cambridge, Edinburgh and Montpellier. This is why I offer courses in most of the literary and linguistic subjects taught in middle and high schools: Spanish (my mother tongue, which I have been teaching for years in private lessons), English (a language I have spoken for almost 15 years and which I taught in the national education system for a year), French, history and art history. All of these subjects fascinate me enormously and I want to pass this passion on to my students. It is entirely possible to combine several of these subjects, which are ultimately very linked to each other.

The class will chart the development of European, American and International art history from 1900 to the present day, beginning with Post-Impressionism and its off-springs Cubism and Expressionism, the move into Abstraction post-war, to Conceptualism and Minimalism of the 1960s and 1970s which still have significant relevance in today's Contemporary art world. The focus will be on the wider political issues that impacted art history of the time, thereby using art history as a novel and unique lens through which we can gauge world history events, and its politics, in a potentially new and interesting light.

Students will explore key historical periods, influential artists, and cultural icons while also gaining an understanding of Italy’s diverse regional traditions, cuisine, and contemporary lifestyle. The course includes discussions on Italian art, architecture, literature, and music, with a particular focus on how these elements reflect and influence the language. Oil painting is one of the oldest forms of making art. With a rich history and continued impact on our experience of the world, learning how to oil paint offers valuable perspectives on creativity. In this course, I will guide you through laying the foundations of your oil painting journey to build on with theory and practice. Classes will include detailed information, demonstration and advice.

This lesson focuses on fashion history from the earliest clothing through the 20th century. Throughout this project students will learn garment parts and styles and the history of clothing and fashion cycles. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the history of fashion and its significance in different time periods. Graduated from the Ecole du Louvre in art history and archeology and from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in history and International Relations, I am completing a master's degree in International Relations specializing in the Middle East at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and in partnership with the American University of Cairo in Egypt. I offer general history courses covering all periods, while being able to give more specific courses on the following periods: ancient history, medieval history, modern history and contemporary history covering European, African and Middle Eastern geographical areas. depending on requests. Finally, I offer geopolitics courses, targeted on the Middle East. The countries and regional areas covered in more detail will be defined with the student. Appendices in art history can be added to general history courses on demand since I also give courses in art history.
