Brazilian Portuguese lessons with a passionate bilingual

Good morning! Buenas dias! Delighted Michaël, teacher on the internet for more than two years. I would like to offer you a fun interaction that complements the school method. I have traveled around the globe which has led me to speak several languages and also to work in particular in England, Australia, Spain or the Dominican Republic. Basically I start the lessons by talking with my students about a bit of everything (in order to enrich the vocabulary). Depending on the level I adapt with files that are sent during the course. I also use the Callan method which works on repetition in order to properly assimilate useful words and phrases. Both Brazilian and European Portuguese. We will start with the basic grammar of the Portuguese language. Depending on the pace and experience of the student, conversation will gradually take place in Portuguese. You will receive useful and practical tips to make learning the language even more fun.

Communicative Methodology The lessons are based on everyday situations that are relevant to the student's sociocultural reality. The main focus is to learn the language in the context in which it is actually used, presenting situations such as at a restaurant, at home, or talking on the phone. In addition, it emphasizes communication between students in these situations, allowing them to exchange experiences. For example, to work on past tense verbs, we can talk about what you did over the weekend. This way, the student applies the new language to their everyday situations. Reading and writing related to these everyday situations are also worked on, encouraging reflection and helping to solidify the content. The method works for both beginner and advanced students. The lessons are naturally developed around practical topics, always focused on real-life subjects (based on the student’s reality). Since we will be learning English or Portuguese through practical contexts, we won't waste time teaching grammar traditionally, which makes the lessons more dynamic and interactive.

The wonderful Portuguese adventure! Advantages of learning a new language: Learning a new language is fun. But what I’m (and you should be) after is not bilingualism but instead biculturalism. We think by aid of words. Therefore language shapes thought. In part this is because working in a second language slows down the thinking. No wonder people feel different when speaking a second language. And no wonder they feel looser, more spontaneous, perhaps more assertive or funnier or blunter. Studies show that being able to speak another language is generally linked to a more flexible brain, developing the brain’s ability to plan and prioritize. Also it betters our defenses against dementia in old age. Advantages of learning Portuguese: • 250 million native speakers worldwide • 5th most common language in the world • It has been an official language since 1297 • It’s usage is spread over 4 continents (Europe, South America, Africa, Asia) Now business, The pace, duration, frequency and schedule of the classes is totally up to the student to decide. The best case scenario is 1-2x per week depending on both parties availability. Focus on diverse subjects is possible, for example, grammar, diction, reading comprehension, written production, conversational skills. In case the student has no specific requests, together we will follow the guidelines of a trusted book (that I myself bring to the class and the student doesn’t need to acquire). In every class the student will be directly influenced by worldwide Portuguese culture ( music, history, geography). Periodically we will evaluate how the classes are evolving so as to rapidly and effectively shift focus to where it is needed.
