About Me
Keith, a jazz vocalist and composer, discovered his passion for music in Hong Kong, where he was born and raised. Having graduated from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, Netherlands, in 2022, he is one of the few singers from Hong Kong who received formal jazz vocal training. He brings a diverse cultural background to his music, enriching it with his choral and theatrical experiences.Known for his creative writing, Keith won the Best Original Music of the Year at the Beehive Music Award 2022 from A Cappella China. Fueling his artistic pursuits, Keith received support from both the Sena Performers Music Production Funds in the Netherlands and the Hong Kong Art Development Council in 2023, facilitating the creation of his debut "Intertwined." Every song on the album bears his creative fingerprint, blending elements of modern jazz, choral arrangement, and theatrical essence.
As a vocalist, Keith is committed to establishing a profound emotional connection with his audience. Through his passionate vocals and improvisation, he is a storyteller who transcends the boundaries of traditional swing music to modern jazz. Notable venues where he has been featured include Musicon in The Hague, FRESH! Den Haag, JAZZFEST in Tilburg, PJPJ Voorschoten, and UIT Festival Den Haag in the Netherlands. In Hong Kong, he has been showcased at Lau Bak Freespace Livehouse and recently appeared on RTHK’s TV program, The Works.
Beyond the jazz scene, Keith served as a resident artist with the award-winning a cappella theater company, Yat Po Singers, in Hong Kong from 2012 to 2018. His versatility extends to arranging music for their productions and collaborating with esteemed groups such as the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Dance Company, and studio ARCHITANZ in Tokyo. Keith's journey is a testament to his unwavering commitment to pushing artistic boundaries and captivating audiences worldwide.

Composition: Acoustic and electroacoustic music, production, film scoring, arrangement, instrumentation, analisys and theory.A composition class that is tailored to your musical needs! This class's main purpose is to help you find your own musical language and voice, either you are a complete beginner in music or a highly skilled musician. The most important question that you will be asked is ''Why?'', in order for you to learn to have control over your musical product, sound and decisions, so that you are always sure that your musical vision is being well translated and transmitted through your work.
In this class we are going to work with:
1) Compositional techniques --- Every lesson we are going to discuss about how do you think your piece should be, and about what does your piece need. For that you will need your intuition but also your ''tools'', and those are your compositional techniques. We are going to see them in other pieces and learn how to use them through your own musical vision.
2) Instrumentation --- To write acoutic music you need your ''arsenal'' and those are the instruments that you might use. In this class we will learn the categories, material, sound, structure and combinations of every instrument. We will learn together how each instrument works and how to notate it on paper, so that you are never limited by the nature of the instrument, but instead you are going to be able to bring out 100% of your music.
3) Arranging --- To make sure that you keep your instrumentation skills, we need to put them to use, not only in your music, but also in an arrangement. Together we are going to work on changing the instrumentation in piece and making arrangements of them so that you have a better nderstanding on how the instrumentation of a piece affects directly the compositional proscess and purpose of a piece of music, but also what are the differences between the sound of each instrument while combining them. Also, this will help you make decisions about the result of the arrangement, do you want it to be true to the original, or not? If not, why, and how do you do that?
4) Music History --- Together we will listen to music and learn some basic music history so that you have a better understanding of the different styles, structures and aspects of music, from the Byzantium and Middle ages music, all the way to the music of today.
5) Improvisation --- If you are also an instrumental player, will work also with improvisation. With improvisation you can strengthen your compositional skills, by understanding your intuition, developing your ear, understanding your taste and learning to work with few material, but the most important thing is to learn how to listen and play music with others, because by learning that, you also learn how to communicate and listen all these musical ideas that you have within you before writting (playing) them, controling them and understanding what is needed and what is not in your music.
6) Film scoring --- If you are interested, in this lesson we will also learn how to adapt music to screen. We will learn how to spot the tempo, feeling and texture of a scene but also how to enhance the message of a movie/game/scene/theatre play/documentary with our music. Furthermore will will learn how to use software for midi composition, and VST instruments
7) Electroacoustic composition and sound design --- If you are also interested in electroacoustic music, in this lesson we will learn how to work with sound editting, mixing, design and engineering. We will listen and learn a lot of electroacoustic compositional tecniques to help you explore, understand and work with a complete different musical world. Our goal is to grow your musical perception and horizon.
8) Music notation and software --- For us composers to write our music sometimes we need to use some programs that help us. In the lesson we will learn how to use programs like that, like Musescore, Sibelius, Reaper etc.

Bandoneon Lessons - Learning from the instrument's techniqueBandoneon is a very well know instrument for playing tango, in fact it's part of the genre's DNA. However,
not many people know that the instrument was constructed in Germany and some people even say it was supposed to be used as an portable organ.
This means that the Bandoneon has a technique that is independent of any genre. This technique is not found by coping other instruments such as the organ or keyboard but through the development of the nature of the instrument. This is mainly the importance of the air and how it is affected by the pulling and the movement we make when we play.
Of course Tango will be an important axis of the lessons as it very important for the development of the instrument and for specific techniques but Tango won't be the starting point as it's not the best pedagogical tool for learning the instrument. But no worries, we'll get there ;)
Have you ever wondered how a Gregorian chant, Bach, Mozart & Chopin might sound in the bandoneon? The results might surprise as you would get a very different sound from the one you are originally used to. Also, we can try and use the bandoneon for different and new genres, who knows what we might discover from the instrument along the way?

“Whatever you think can't be done, somebody will come along and do it.” – Thelonious Monk
SAXOPHONE LESSON:
To learn how to transfer your musical ideas into the saxophone is required a total connection between your body and your mind with the horn. That's why for the first part of every lesson will be focused on the Sound and the saxophone technique.
You need to learn how to build your own saxophone tone and how to sing into the instrument.
This process can take some weeks for really beginners but it'll show you how the musical practice can positive effect your all body and emotions, as well as your creativity.
In order to make your music journey more fun and personal my lessons will be based on your music interests and purpose (learn how to read music, improvisation ecc...)
During this journey together we'll build your own repertoire of songs that most represent you, which we'll dedicate the second part of the lesson.
FOR NERDY ;)
For those who wants to go deeper into the world of saxophone I'll organize some special 'listening section' focus on the the role of Saxophone in the music history and in the different kind of music. From the classical repertoire (Gershwin, Bizet, Milhaud, Rota, Bernstein, Steve Reich, Michael Nyman...) passing through the more popular: Blues, Jazz (Stan Getz, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Sonny Rollins...), latin , rock&roll, Pop until nowadays.
We'll listen to the milestones of the great composers and performers that have made the history of this fantastic instrument.
I'm sure It'll be a journey of discovery the beauty of the music to which this instrument has made, and a big inspiration for you to grow the passion toward this amazing form of art.
