Graduated musician teaches the transverse flute for children, teenagers and adults, beginners to advanced

Translated by Google. Click to view original.
My lessons are mainly aimed at those who are new to music and who wish to start learning the transverse flute, through the development of the ear and the discovery of music theory.
On the program: learning to breathe, discovering a varied repertoire, technical work...
I base my lessons on various works and especially on my musical experience, aiming to transmit my passion for music.

Graduated with a degree in musicology and currently studying at the conservatory, I have been practicing the piano, guitar and transverse flute for several years now and in particular in various jazz and contemporary music formations. Student in scholarly disciplines (Analysis, History of Music, Writing, Orchestration) I strive to link instrumental practice to elements of music culture, historical events or anecdotes :)
Through my lessons I try to transmit my passion for music and the desire to learn.

About Me

Translated by Google. Click to view original.
My name is Damien, 22 years old, and in parallel with my student activity, I have been giving music lessons to children, adolescents and adults for several years. Truly versatile, I am able to adapt to the needs and personality of my students. Indeed, I base my teaching of the guitar and of music in general on the development of the creativity and the musical ear of my students. In my opinion, the most important thing is to instill in my students autonomy and a passion for music. Too often, in traditional education, teachers prefer the mechanical work of the instrument to the development of creativity and the musical ear of the student. Thus, I will constantly seek to introduce new music to my students, whether it is Jazz, rock and pop, the vast world of "classical" music or even non-European music.

Although the technical work of the instrument is essential, the development of a sense of creativity and a personal musical curiosity is too often overlooked. Music, above all else, should be a source of wonder, sharing and personal enrichment for the student. This is how my teaching revolves around the development of the ear (especially through singing), the practice of improvisation in order to free the imagination, and the learning of the basics of harmony and music theory in order to allow my students, even the youngest, to be able to create their own pieces and to navigate as they wish in this vast ocean that is music.

Whether, whether you are a parent and you are looking to help your children develop through the practice of music, or an adult in search of new knowledge, my teaching seems ideal to help you.

Education

Regarding my student and professional career, I hold a license in musicology, ethnomusicology course (study and practice of extra-European music) obtained at the University of Paris 8 of Saint-Denis.

I am currently studying composition (for orchestra, small instrumental ensembles), baroque, classical and modern writing, analysis as well as jazz, simultaneously at the conservatory of Gennevilliers and at the conservatory of the 1st arrondissement.

Experience / Qualifications

I have been practicing the guitar as well as the piano, alone or in a group, since my teenage years. In addition to that, I have been playing the transverse flute in various jazz groups for four years now. A large part of my musical practice revolves around the Gamelan Balinais, a group with which we performed in the large Pierre Boulez hall of the Philarmonie de Paris on October 2, 2021 as part of the Nuit Blanche.

Graduated from a license in musicology, I am currently pursuing my graduate studies at the conservatory in the scholarly disciplines of composition, analysis, writing, musical arrangement as well as Jazz. I have been playing guitar for many, many years now, as well as piano and flute. I have been teaching guitar, piano, flute and musical education for several years now to children, teenagers and adults. I also have a very good level in music theory, writing (jazz and classical), harmony as well as musical composition. My classes are based on listening as well as the development of the musical ear and musical creativity. I try to transmit my passion for music by making my students discover very varied horizons, from jazz to classical music, including current music and so-called traditional music. I also seek to develop autonomy in my students, an essential quality in order to flourish both musically and in everyday life. This is why I insist on the knowledge of the instrument and the development of creativity through the teaching of applied music theory and the development of the ear. My course is aimed at both beginners and people of an intermediate or advanced level who would like to improve their skills. If you are looking for a teacher who is both an educator and attentive to your personal musicality, do not hesitate to contact me.

Flexible pedagogy and listening to the student for a serene learning of the flute
For me, each student is different and deserves a personalized approach. I try above all to put him in confidence so that he progresses serenely and in the pleasure of learning and seeks a language and a mode of operation which corresponds to him. I always start my lessons with a little warm-up before doing technical and musical work on the songs. After a few sessions we establish with the student a "plan of attack" defining the short, medium and long term objectives.

My method synthesizes the strongest aspects of the French and American schools, and is oriented by an empowering pedagogical format teaching the student auto-listening skills so they can continue to build knowledge and ease on the instrument outside of the studio. Nous travaillons la sonorité, le rhythme, l'articulation, le phrasé et la musique de chambre (duos).

Flute and Music Theory tuition for students of all levels
I have played the flute for more than 20 years, and have been teaching since 2011. I offer flute lessons to children aged 8 and up, and adults at all levels from beginners to post Grade 8. I also teach recorder to younger beginners- I find this is a good stepping stone for younger children as it's more comfortable for smaller beginners to hold, and easier to make a sound on. Learn to pass exams or just for fun- many of my students achieve highly in ABRSM and Trinity grades, but some prefer not to take exams and this is fine too. Whatever your level, one to one tuition means that I can tailor my teaching to your needs as a flute player, and my teaching takes into account the reasons you learn an instrument, encompassing a wide variety of repertoire. I also teach music theory- lots of students come to me to help prepare for Grade 5 theory, and I also teach higher theory grades.

Imogen

I offer lessons to all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to those more advanced. Typical lessons last from 30 minutes to an hour. All of my lessons are tailored to meet the exact needs and preferences of my students, whether that's working towards their next graded exam, playing just for fun, and anything in between. I hold a first class honours degree in Classical Flute from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where I studied with Ian Clarke and Philippa Davies, and won the Needlemaker's Woodwind Prize. After graduating in 2022, I was invited to become a Guildhall School Junior Fellow, specialising in Flute and Composition. As a freelance flautist, I have had the privilege of performing at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Concert Hall and the Southbank Centre. My performance experience encompasses a diverse range of settings, from live radio broadcasts to collaborations with dance and art installations, reflecting my versatility as a musician, and openness to help my students pursue their own personal journey, both within music and as an individual in general. Notable highlights include composing for Wessel Flutes, Berlin Fashion Week, Nxt Museum (Amsterdam), and Adidas Y-3. My work as a composer heavily influences my approach to teaching. Beyond emphasising technical proficiency and a solid grasp of music theory, I am dedicated to nurturing creativity in all of my students.
