Latin lessons for beginners or less advanced: better understand the interest of the language and its history

Associate teacher of Modern Letters, doctor in medieval language and literature, offers help in learning the Latin and French language. Regarding Latin, versions and themes form the basis of the planned exercises. Regarding French, the course is based on the specific needs of students, from high school to university (method of dissertation, compound commentary, grammar exercises, spelling rules etc ...). This course is also intended for students wishing to prepare for teaching competitions.

I am passionate about languages and the study of translation (version / theme). I studied Latin and English throughout my schooling and during my studies in preparatory literary class. I also went to work in England for a two month stay, which allowed me to develop a "British" accent and to be more aware of the characteristics of this wonderful language and indispensable in the world today. I am currently teaching Latin and English to undergraduate students in Literature at the Sorbonne. I am very focused on the practice of the language, the exercises and the translation, which are a guarantee of efficiency and discipline.

I am of Czech origin but I have been living in Strasbourg for 4 years! I can offer you English lessons (grammar or just to speak :), Czech (if there are any French people who want to learn! :) or Latin (I did 5 years in the Czech Republic and 3 in France at university :)

The courses are aimed at people of all ages who wish to start or consolidate skills in Italian, Latin, Ancient Greek and Philosophy. Lessons take place at home or online, depending on the schedule and needs of each. They include detailed monitoring of the student through the use of didactic cards. In this class i help students with Latin language, grammar and literature. It's a taugh language to study and translate but we'll try to make it in the most communicative way as possible using flash cards and other tools to study declinations and tenses.

Contrary to popular belief, learning Latin is not like learning the phone book by heart. I offer you Latin lessons that are unlike any other. There are two types of courses. Here is an analogy to illustrate their respective approaches: If you take the train back and forth every day and don't have time to wait long at the platform, imagine that you only have two options: 1) Learn the schedules by heart. 2) Note that the train arrives every ten minutes and that a train arrives for example at 7:00 a.m. In school pedagogy, in study notebooks and in ordinary courses, it is the first approach which is adopted - in the courses that I offer you, it is the second because it is more economical and faster. My offer is aimed at both students and adults who want to learn the Latin language or deepen their knowledge without time-consuming detours through the insanities of school methods which do not produce results. Learning is easy but unlearning what has become a bad habit is extremely difficult. All the more important it is to learn the right reflexes as early as possible. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning in a positive state of mind. I offer individual or group Latin lessons (2 to 5 people). The methods are based on cognitive sciences and in particular historical linguistics. What will not be the subject of the course: learn lists of verbs; learn lists of nouns with their gender; learn words with their translations; memory card game; doing school exercises; follow the program in a notebook; impose French grammar on the Latin language. What matters to me in particular: motivate my student and give him a learning rhythm; encourage creativity; make friends with language; letters and their sounds strengthen your memory by working on the phonological loop; teach construction plans instead of having people learn sentences by heart; explain how the language works to make my student independent as quickly as possible; breaking preconceived ideas such as the gammatical gender would have a link with the biological gender, the accusative would be a direct complement and the dative an indirect complement, the verbs would be irregular, the declension would be random and therefore to be learned with each verb... ; place practice at the center and articulate grammar around practice. As a recent Oxford Classics graduate, I am keen to share my love of Latin and the Latin language with any would-be enthusiasts. I have experience in tutoring Latin from scratch to A-Level equivalent standard. In these classes, I'll focus on equipping my students with the necessary tools to master grammar and build up their vocabulary repertoire. We'll focus on strengthening our understanding of the building blocks of the language - noun declensions, verb conjugations, participles and the like - before moving onto more complex syntax such as subjunctive clauses. My lessons take an active approach so alongside the grammar tables we'll also translate passages of Latin, and I might throw in a fun fact or two!

***THE TEXTBOOK IS NOT NECESSARY FOR THE CLASS*** Learning Latin is the gateway to an entire civilisation - the Romans. In this class, we will cover the contents of the textbook called Wheelock's Latin, starting with the basics of noun and verb formations and ending with various kinds of subjunctive clauses, and how to interpret them.

Flexibility is central to my approach, and I will adapt our lesson plans to your specific needs and objectives. I have a deep knowledge of Latin and Greek linguistics, and offer tuition to all levels from Beginner, through GCSE and A-Level, up to those studying Classics at university. In our first lesson, we'll get to know each other and discuss your objectives and style of learning - I want to understand how you like to learn, what you find easy, and what you find difficult. Private Latin classes for high school students, both for those who have just started learning the subject and for those who are in their second year and are going to take the university entrance exams. You will learn Latin the way it was meant to be learned - through conversation! Medieval scholars and contemporary language researchers alike advocate the use of dialogues and comprehensible input for language acquisition, and it most certainly works!
