Learn Latin, Ancient Greek, Classical Studies, with a Cambridge graduate

Contrary to popular belief, learning Latin is not like learning the phone book by heart. I offer you Latin lessons that are unlike any other. There are two types of courses. Here is an analogy to illustrate their respective approaches: If you take the train back and forth every day and don't have time to wait long at the platform, imagine that you only have two options: 1) Learn the schedules by heart. 2) Note that the train arrives every ten minutes and that a train arrives for example at 7:00 a.m. In school pedagogy, in study notebooks and in ordinary courses, it is the first approach which is adopted - in the courses that I offer you, it is the second because it is more economical and faster. My offer is aimed at both students and adults who want to learn the Latin language or deepen their knowledge without time-consuming detours through the insanities of school methods which do not produce results. Learning is easy but unlearning what has become a bad habit is extremely difficult. All the more important it is to learn the right reflexes as early as possible. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning in a positive state of mind. I offer individual or group Latin lessons (2 to 5 people). The methods are based on cognitive sciences and in particular historical linguistics. What will not be the subject of the course: learn lists of verbs; learn lists of nouns with their gender; learn words with their translations; memory card game; doing school exercises; follow the program in a notebook; impose French grammar on the Latin language. What matters to me in particular: motivate my student and give him a learning rhythm; encourage creativity; make friends with language; letters and their sounds strengthen your memory by working on the phonological loop; teach construction plans instead of having people learn sentences by heart; explain how the language works to make my student independent as quickly as possible; breaking preconceived ideas such as the gammatical gender would have a link with the biological gender, the accusative would be a direct complement and the dative an indirect complement, the verbs would be irregular, the declension would be random and therefore to be learned with each verb... ; place practice at the center and articulate grammar around practice. You will be prepared for public exams (A levels, GCSE, American SATS, Common Entrance) in French, Spanish, Linguistics (English) and Latin (up to Common Entrance) to a high standard. For those not taking exams, you will be taught via grammar and reading, which assures quick progression. You are welcome to bring your own material to explore with the tutor or your school prep. I do not write essays for students but provide a high degree of research to allow you to shine in your project or chosen module.

Flexibility is central to my approach, and I will adapt our lesson plans to your specific needs and objectives. I have a deep knowledge of Latin and Greek linguistics, and offer tuition to all levels from Beginner, through GCSE and A-Level, up to those studying Classics at university. In our first lesson, we'll get to know each other and discuss your objectives and style of learning - I want to understand how you like to learn, what you find easy, and what you find difficult. And from there, we'll develop a well-prepared, interesting and valuable lesson plan. If learning a language is the scariest thing in the world to you, don't worry! I will always be a friendly, patient and devoted tutor. I have experience tutoring students in 4 different languages over the past 5 years. I understand the importance of sympathy and patience in teaching, and will always be able to slow down or speed up the course of learning as required. Traditional Chinese poetry is an extremely captivating literary genre, rich in content and endowed with harmonious melody. It also tells us the stories of the historical periods when these poems were created. In this course, we will delve deep into the world of traditional Chinese poetry, deciphering the history behind it. At the same time, poetic rhythms will help you quickly establish a solid phonetic foundation in spoken Chinese. Learning poetry is also an essential method for Chinese children when practicing their mother tongue.

This course offers an in-depth exploration of painting, with an emphasis on the techniques, styles, and artistic movements that have marked the history of art. Intended for students of all levels, the course combines practical painting sessions with theoretical studies of iconic works, allowing participants to draw inspiration from old and contemporary masters to develop their own style. Currently studying art history at the École du Louvre, and having studied in prestigious schools such as the École Olivier de Serres, I am a creator-researcher in contemporary art, specializing in culinary design, which enriches my pedagogical approach with a unique interdisciplinary perspective. Students will learn to master various painting techniques, such as oil, acrylic, and watercolor, while discovering how these mediums have evolved over the centuries, techniques that I learned in particular during my professional experience in the museographic workshops (decoration painting) of the Louvre Museum. This class is designed for people to work through translation with a variety of Latin passages of all difficulties. I will provide and prepare the texts, and we will work through them together in order to ensure maximum understanding. Authors include Virgil, Ovid, Catullus, Cicero, Nepos, and others.

Private Latin classes for high school students, both for those who have just started learning the subject and for those who are in their second year and are going to take the university entrance exams. We will review the content corresponding to each level and will emphasize those in which the student has the greatest difficulty.

With a master's degree in Language, Literature and Civilization of the English-Speaking World, I took a large number of courses in history, art history and of course languages, literature and translation during my studies at the universities of Cambridge, Edinburgh and Montpellier. This is why I offer courses in most of the literary and linguistic subjects taught in middle and high schools: Spanish (my mother tongue, which I have been teaching for years in private lessons), English (a language I have spoken for almost 15 years and which I taught in the national education system for a year), French, history and art history. All of these subjects fascinate me enormously and I want to pass this passion on to my students. It is entirely possible to combine several of these subjects, which are ultimately very linked to each other.

A vast number of English words have Greek roots, especially in fields such as medicine, science, philosophy, and the arts. Learning Greek can help you understand the etymology of many English words and terms, enhancing your vocabulary and comprehension. For example, words like "psychology," "democracy," and "philosophy" all have Greek origins. By learning Greek, you gain the ability to read and understand both classical and modern Greek literature. Classical works by authors like Sophocles, Euripides, and Aristophanes are best appreciated in their original form, capturing nuances and meanings that translations might miss. Additionally, modern Greek literature offers rich storytelling and contemporary insights into Greek culture and society.

I offer my services as tutor for students in subjects such as Spanish, Art History, History, English, Philosophy and other subjects that we can study together. I help in preparing for exams, doing homework and exercises together, explaining the content in a way that is easier for the student than simply reading the text, study techniques, such as making summaries and diagrams, etc.

The class will chart the development of European, American and International art history from 1900 to the present day, beginning with Post-Impressionism and its off-springs Cubism and Expressionism, the move into Abstraction post-war, to Conceptualism and Minimalism of the 1960s and 1970s which still have significant relevance in today's Contemporary art world. The focus will be on the wider political issues that impacted art history of the time, thereby using art history as a novel and unique lens through which we can gauge world history events, and its politics, in a potentially new and interesting light.
