Latin, a fascinating language that allows you to better understand French, to immerse yourself in the stories from Antiquity to the Renaissance and to discover a new way of thinking. Whether it is to discover it, to deepen it or to help you with your courses, you will benefit from my experience in classical studies, from my years spent in a library of old books and manuscripts and from my passion for grammar (which is not so boring when you know where to take it).

I obtained my CESS in general education in Latin, Greek, history, math 4. Then I started studying at the University of Liège in ancient languages and letters classical orientation in September 2019. I obtained in June 2020 a complete success of the first bachelor in this option and I am now embarking on the pursuit of these studies. I have therefore accumulated a good deal of knowledge in the following subjects: Latin, ancient Greek, history. I am now able to give tutoring lessons to great beginners or intermediaries who need help in these subjects. My teaching methods are flexible and I can help with understanding and completing homework.

You don't need to have any knowledge of the Greek Language. You need only a PC and good internet connection. You don't have to buy any books or materials. You need only appetite to learn and to be present at the lessons. I will send everything you need about the lessons. My lessons are adjustable to your time to study. If you don't have time to study at home, don't worry. A lot of adults work or have children and is difficult for them to spend time at home studying. I will explain grammar, we will do together exercises, speaking, listening, vocabulary exercises and we will read texts. Also, videos and on line games will be provided to you. I am not strict as a teacher and I am very flexible about the schedule.

Contrary to popular belief, learning Latin is not like learning the phone book by heart. I offer you Latin lessons that are unlike any other. There are two types of courses. Here is an analogy to illustrate their respective approaches: If you take the train back and forth every day and don't have time to wait long at the platform, imagine that you only have two options: 1) Learn the schedules by heart. 2) Note that the train arrives every ten minutes and that a train arrives for example at 7:00 a.m. In school pedagogy, in study notebooks and in ordinary courses, it is the first approach which is adopted - in the courses that I offer you, it is the second because it is more economical and faster. My offer is aimed at both students and adults who want to learn the Latin language or deepen their knowledge without time-consuming detours through the insanities of school methods which do not produce results. Learning is easy but unlearning what has become a bad habit is extremely difficult. All the more important it is to learn the right reflexes as early as possible. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning in a positive state of mind. I offer individual or group Latin lessons (2 to 5 people). The methods are based on cognitive sciences and in particular historical linguistics. What will not be the subject of the course: learn lists of verbs; learn lists of nouns with their gender; learn words with their translations; memory card game; doing school exercises; follow the program in a notebook; impose French grammar on the Latin language. What matters to me in particular: motivate my student and give him a learning rhythm; encourage creativity; make friends with language; letters and their sounds strengthen your memory by working on the phonological loop; teach construction plans instead of having people learn sentences by heart; explain how the language works to make my student independent as quickly as possible; breaking preconceived ideas such as the gammatical gender would have a link with the biological gender, the accusative would be a direct complement and the dative an indirect complement, the verbs would be irregular, the declension would be random and therefore to be learned with each verb... ; place practice at the center and articulate grammar around practice. I have several years of experience tutoring students of different age groups in Latin and Ancient Greek. I am deeply passionate about these languages and I enjoy helping students improving at them. Latin is a rather subtle language and for some, almost enigmatic, as the style, vocabulary and syntax can be confusing. Applications for Classics at Oxford and Cambridge both involve a language assessment, for which I provide expert tutoring and guidance in as a first-class Classics and English graduate from Oxford. Classics at Oxford uses the Classics Admissions Test (CAT) for Course I (for students with Latin/Greek to A Level) or the Classical Language Aptitude Test (CLAT) for Course II (for students without Latin/Greek) to decide who will be invited for interview. At Cambridge only candidates shortlisted for interview will be required to take such assessment, which will be a translation exercise for the 3-year course, or a language aptitude interview for the 4-year. All assessments involve careful application of linguistic knowledge, whether of classical languages or English, which I will ensure you are extremely well-prepared to do. Applicants are also required to submit two pieces of written work prior to interview, which I am able to advise about if requested.
