1st Class Cambridge Graduate – Latin & Ancient Greek Classes
Flexibility is central to my approach, and I will adapt our lesson plans to your specific needs and objectives. I have a deep knowledge of Latin and Greek linguistics, and offer tuition to all levels from Beginner, through GCSE and A-Level, up to those studying Classics at university.
In our first lesson, we'll get to know each other and discuss your objectives and style of learning - I want to understand how you like to learn, what you find easy, and what you find difficult. And from there, we'll develop a well-prepared, interesting and valuable lesson plan.
If learning a language is the scariest thing in the world to you, don't worry! I will always be a friendly, patient and devoted tutor. I have experience tutoring students in 4 different languages over the past 5 years. I understand the importance of sympathy and patience in teaching, and will always be able to slow down or speed up the course of learning as required. Latin and Greek are not easy, but with an experienced and friendly teacher, it can be a brilliant experience!
I'm happy to run lessons of any length, and at any frequency.
At various times in my life I've personally tried to learn almost 20 different languages (though Latin and Greek remain my favourites!), so I know very well how it feels to be staring at a page full of weird-looking words, and not have a clue where to start. Helping people to cut through the chaos, and see the wild beauty of complex languages like Latin and Greek, is one of the most satisfying feelings I've had through my years of tutoring both children and adults. My mission as a tutor will always be more than just to build your ability in these languages, it will be to build your love of them as well.

Latin, Ancient Greek, Classics and English tutoring for kids!I'm a Cambridge graduate in Classics from Kings' College. Previous students have gained admission to Eton, Westminster and other leading UK schools. My goal is to ensure students feel happy and confident for any upcoming assessments they might have and to lay the foundations for further development!

Non-academic Latin lessons. Multilingual teacher with 9 years of experience. Pronunciation, historical linguistics, conceptual semantics.Contrary to popular belief, learning Latin is not like learning the phone book by heart.
I offer you Latin lessons that are unlike any other. There are two types of courses. Here is an analogy to illustrate their respective approaches:
If you take the train back and forth every day and don't have time to wait long at the platform, imagine that you only have two options:
1) Learn the schedules by heart.
2) Note that the train arrives every ten minutes and that a train arrives for example at 7:00 a.m.
In school pedagogy, in study notebooks and in ordinary courses, it is the first approach which is adopted - in the courses that I offer you, it is the second because it is more economical and faster.
My offer is aimed at both students and adults who want to learn the Latin language or deepen their knowledge without time-consuming detours through the insanities of school methods which do not produce results.
Learning is easy but unlearning what has become a bad habit is extremely difficult. All the more important it is to learn the right reflexes as early as possible. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning in a positive state of mind.
I offer individual or group Latin lessons (2 to 5 people). The methods are based on cognitive sciences and in particular historical linguistics.
What will not be the subject of the course:
learn lists of verbs;
learn lists of nouns with their gender;
learn words with their translations;
memory card game;
doing school exercises;
follow the program in a notebook;
impose French grammar on the Latin language.
What matters to me in particular:
motivate my student and give him a learning rhythm;
encourage creativity;
make friends with language;
letters and their sounds
strengthen your memory by working on the phonological loop;
teach construction plans instead of having people learn sentences by heart;
explain how the language works to make my student independent as quickly as possible;
breaking preconceived ideas such as the gammatical gender would have a link with the biological gender, the accusative would be a direct complement and the dative an indirect complement, the verbs would be irregular, the declension would be random and therefore to be learned with each verb... ;
place practice at the center and articulate grammar around practice.
In the context of a first course, you can get a well-founded idea of my pedagogy.
I look forward to meeting you.

Learn Greek with an Experienced PhilologistI am a passionate philologist with a degree from the University of Ioannina, specializing in Modern Greek Literature and Poetry. With over six years of teaching experience in Ancient Greek, Modern Greek, Homeric Epics, and Greek Poetry, and three years of experience teaching Greek as a foreign language, I offer lessons that are both engaging and effective.
In my classes, we combine structured learning with real-life conversations, cultural immersion, and creative activities. I believe that the best way to learn Greek is through interactive storytelling, exposure to Greek music, and discussions about Greek literature and poetry, including works by famous poets like C.P. Cavafy. My approach ensures that students not only acquire language skills but also develop a deeper connection to Greek culture and history.
Whether you're looking to learn Greek for travel, work, or simply out of passion, I tailor each lesson to your personal goals and learning style. I’ve also had the privilege of teaching Greek to refugees and migrants, adapting my methods to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all learners.
Join me in an immersive, fun, and effective language journey where you will speak confidently and connect with the beauty of the Greek language.

Living Latin through Comprehensible Input (Contemporary and Medieval Latin)You will learn Latin the way it was meant to be learned - through conversation! Medieval scholars and contemporary language researchers alike advocate the use of dialogues and comprehensible input for language acquisition, and it most certainly works! As opposed to the "memorise grammar rules and then babble them in front of the class" approach that was demonstrated by the infamous "Romanēs eunt domus" scene from Monty Python's "The Life of Brian", you will learn to feel the grammar, so that you will be able to use the different cases of Latin without even thinking about it, just like a native speaker!
For this class we will be using the following books, depending on the learner's level:
Hans Øreberg's "Lingua Latīna per sē Illustrāta"
"Corderiī Colloquia"
Erasmus Rask's "Colloquia Familiaria"
John C. Traupman Conversational Latin for Oral Proficiency
I will be the collocutor and I will answer the learner's questions and explain certain oddities solely in Latin (I will use a second language only when the situation calls for it)
We will also engage in free-form conversations, discussions of the dialogues, of our life experiences etc so that the learner can apply what they learn to real-life situations and expand their vocabulary

Italian language and literature - Latin language and literatureI am a fully qualified Italian (native) and Latin teacher, and language enthusiast. I am currently teaching GCSE and A-level students in a Sixth Form College in Oxford, but I have taught Italian and Latin in Italian Lyceum high schools for two decades.
The courses I offer include GCSE and A-level preparation, university admission preparation, university undergraduate courses, and Italian for adult learners (all levels).
I hold a Laurea summa cum laude in Lettere (Italian and Latin Language and Literature) from the University of Verona, a PCTHE (two years) in 'Teaching Italian and Latin Language and Literature' from the University ‘Ca’ Foscari’ of Venice and a MA on Didactic of Italian Language from the University ‘Tor Vergata’ of Rome.
My preparation and my long-term experience has allowed me to acquire and develop different language teaching methods so that my classes are tailored to suit the learning style of each student.

Ancient Greek, Latin and Spanish Language (online and face-to-face)Hello! I am Andrés and I have a degree in Classical Philology. I teach Latin and ancient Greek classes, at all levels, both for school reinforcement and if you want to learn these two languages for pleasure. I like to teach these subjects based on new methodologies that make learning them more enjoyable and pleasant for the student. In addition, I like to complement the teaching of these languages with culture and history classes, since it is very important to know the context in which we move in each class. Anyway, I adapt to the needs of each student. I also teach Spanish Language and Literature reinforcement classes, both for Primary, ESO, Baccalaureate students, and those who take the University entrance exams. Flexible schedule.

Learn (modern) Greek for everyday use, university, tourism with FUN and passion / (ancient) Greek for school and universityI am a native speaker of Greek. I graduated from a Greek high school and, later, the University of Athens where I attended courses in pedagogics, psychology, and linguistics.
During our lessons, I'll help you develop your skills (oral/written, and not only). I'll also try to help you improve your pronunciation and spelling. I assign homework and after I receive it, correct it thoroughly additionally providing a lot of remarks/examples if they are necessary.
I worked at a language center between 2009-2016 where I was a director of studies and taught mainly English as a foreign/second language. Since 2005, when I first started teaching Greek, I have taught children and adults on a variety of language proficiency levels, mainly individually.
I constantly seek progress, meaning that I study further through reading books/articles concerning didactics/methodology and learning difficulties (chiefly dyslexia), observing other teachers as well as attending seminars (online or face-to-face).
During my lessons I use :
- Skype/Whatsapp/Messenger to connect with you,
- Google Docs to keep notes, which you can check at any time and they are yours to keep,
- sketch board me to make mind maps to show connections between ideas, etc.
- books, PPP, word docs, diagrams, pics, etc.
- pronunciation/spelling/grammar games,
- authentic materials were taken from websites.
I adore my profession and desire each and every one of my students be satisfied with the lesson. That's why I make sure the atmosphere is stress-free and nice. I also want my lessons to be as effective and close to real-life needs as possible. Therefore, I make sure they are well-prepared, although they can be altered at any point, should such an opportunity arise. I like explaining things in a variety of ways as well as make use of dictionaries, diagrams, etc. When it comes to students who want to obtain certificates, I am very demanding.
What can I teach?
- I would love to help you improve/develop all language skills (speaking/writing-listening/reading + grammar/vocabulary/pronunciation),
- I would love to help you prepare for state certificates such as A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.
- I would love to help you with homework and assignments (literature, history) from school and university (but please contact me about that IN ADVANCE).
Regarding Ancient Greek, I can help you with commentaries/translations/grammar/syntax:
- Socrates, Plato, Aristotle,
- Homer, Aeschylus, Euripides, Sophocles, Sappho,
- Herodotus, Thucydides, Xenophon.

Latin lessons for all levels (beginners, intermediates, advanced, higher education students)-ADULTSAssociate professor, Doctor of Letters (Paris IV Sorbonne), teaches Latin at all levels.
This course is aimed at anyone wishing to learn or relearn the Latin language, progressively access literature, history, philosophy, ancient sciences, and approach Latin culture. It is also intended for any pupil or student wishing for support in this subject.
Learning the Latin language presupposes a few solid bases of French grammar that we review of course if necessary, before installing Latin grammatical knowledge.
Learning Latin develops the rigor and sense of translation.

Latin becomes easy if you know how to decipher it. I offer you a keychain. In our lessons, I address your needs individually and give you tips on how you can improve step by step. My teaching method is based on examples so that you can quickly apply what you have learned. Write to me briefly about where you are in your language learning and what you want to achieve.
About me:
I won an ancient language competition while I was still in school, then studied Latin and ancient Greek in Cologne, Oxford and the USA and completed my PhD in Classical Studies. For 15+ years I have been teaching Latin and ancient Greek to students from secondary school to the end of their university studies. I have offered ancient language instruction at high schools and universities.
In high school I first fell in love with ancient languages and continued by researching ancient writings and cultures from Homer to late antiquity. I particularly like that ancient literature covers all topics - myths, philosophy, poetry, wars, politics, history, science...
I have always enjoyed teaching, especially when I can respond to the interests of my students!
