I learned sewing and pattern making from my grandmother, like many of us! Passionate about history, she passed on to me her love of savoir-faire, craftsmanship and historical costumes. This lesson focuses on fashion history from the earliest clothing through the 20th century. Throughout this project students will learn garment parts and styles and the history of clothing and fashion cycles. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the history of fashion and its significance in different time periods. Sewing and wearing self-made clothes made of new material is something very special in and of itself. It is even more exciting to sew a dress from second hand clothes, curtains, duvet covers or bathrobes, especially if these also have a special sentimental meaning.
