Cello lessons and Solfege. Teaching classical and popular music, jazz and traditional Balkan music with a lot of improvisations!

Hello, I'm Vartan, a cellist with a great orchestral experience.
Before moving to Geneva, I worked for over twenty years in the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Belgrade (SORTS). I have also performed at the Belgrade Opera, in many chamber ensembles and musicals. In parallel, I went to classes in jazz, world music and ethno (Balkan music) where I learned different rhythms and improvisation which helped me to develop my understanding of classical music and music in general. I will try to pass all this experience on you and beside improving your techniques, I will try to help you to understand music better!

    Extra information

Due to my familiarity of improvisation and orchestral music, I often accompany my students with my cello, giving them motivation and joy of playing.

    About Me

I approach each student individually, of course, but the ultimate goal is music as a universal language. The technique of playing an instrument is very necessary, but only for the purpose of being able to express ourselves as well as possible in musical speech. Music can be approached using a mathematical or physics method, but with a note that there are no exact rules, that is, we are the ones who create those rules or tasks and at the same time we find a solution, and that is the beauty of music itself. In other words, absolute freedom in creating a new or another dimension.

    Education

Cellist graduate of the Faculty of Music, University of Belgrade, in the class of Professor Sandra Belić
Since 1996, active participation in music workshops (Music workshop) of improvisation: jazz, classical and world music, led by Vojin Draškoci, double bass player, composer and arranger, in which he regularly taught
Bojan Zulfikarpašić pianist and composer, Julien Lourau saxophonist, Zvonko Tot guitarist and arranger, Mladen Jagušt conductor, etc.

    Experience / Qualifications

I worked for over twenty years in the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Belgrade (SORTS). I have also performed at the Belgrade Opera, in many chamber ensembles and musicals.
Since I came to Geneva, I have also been playing very different styles of music. Among the classical ones, I single out the musical group "Les Perles des Balkans" and the cello orchestra "Leman Cellos". Other bands range from reggae to jazz and afro styles.
Also, both in Belgrade and here, I give private lessons, for a time I had a class at the Maison des Arts "La Julienne".
I am a member of AMR in Geneva.

Let's talk about music! Musical language, harmony, composition, various analyses, music in its sociocultural context or commented readings
(Important! The schedules are now closing with the students I already have, so it is difficult to specify a definitive schedule for September) Hello! I have been teaching uninterruptedly for more than 10 years and I would like to explain to you what you can find in a class with me: - To begin, the most important thing is to know what you want to achieve. I would like to focus the classes according to what you need or want, from learning for pure pleasure from scratch to preparing for entrance tests or focusing professionally. The needs of each student may vary the methodology, the way of organizing the study sessions, etc. - Once we know what we want to achieve and by when, classes will begin in a relaxed atmosphere. Important! Relaxed does not equal lax! only that we will try to resort to dynamic and as practical methods as possible, especially given my character and sense of humor ;). - Something important to highlight is that I always place special emphasis on the development of hearing, musicality and the analysis of your references. Above all so that you can then make your own aesthetic decisions and feel like owner of your music. - Last but not least, my tendency will be to give equal importance to different music. We will adapt to your tastes and needs, but here there is no room to say which music is better or worse. Each one will help us work on different aspects of the music and, if we don't know something, we will analyze it side by side until we unravel all its mysteries. The only thing I will do is work on themes and styles that can help us in each section of musical development (melody, harmony, rhythm, orchestration, production, lyrics, semiotics, etc.) If you like what you've read, don't hesitate to contact me. Learning music is a pleasure and I would love to share it with you! IMPORTANT!!! Due to the volume of concerts and other assignments I have, I will need to agree on a little flexibility. You will always be my priority and there will only be changes if I really can't find an alternative. I appreciate the understanding.

Discover the guitar differently and intuitively
This course is above all there to make you want to play the guitar, let it be a pleasure! It will be based on the practice of the instrument, on the understanding and role of the guitar. The theory will be based on the progress of the practice. Step by step, practice and theory will thus be complementary, and will necessarily be useful! Have you always dreamed of being able to play the guitar? it's time to get started! Let the magic of music take hold of you and become the accomplished guitarist you always wanted to be! Possibility of offering this course to one of your loved ones, a very appreciated gift for people who would like to embark on a musical adventure!

Improvisation for beginners and intermediates (any instrument)
For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease. If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session. Whether you play a single line instrument (flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin etc.) or keyboard instruments, this class is for you.

Cello in a nutshell: Cello lessons for everyone in Mainz and online
Music is very interesting both as a profession and as a hobby, but in the beginning we all have difficulties when it comes to playing an instrument. But with a little guidance and a bit of patience you can get the desired results... it's proven :) My name is Paula, I love teaching and working with enthusiastic people, because as I said, teaching others is actually teaching yourself ;). My bachelor's degree at the Conservatory of Ghent (Belgium) taught me what music interpretation is. At the Peter Cornelis Conservatory I learned the important basics of cello and music teaching. In recent years I have gained a lot of experience teaching cello in individual and group lessons as well as in string class lessons. The way of teaching will suit the level of the student (for beginners I divide the lessons into two parts: half basic music theory and the other half cello), and I will always have my cello with me to illustrate. If you are interested in playing this beautiful instrument, do not hesitate to write to me. Music is a beautiful game.
