I was also a recipient of Talent Development Scholarship awarded by the Hong Kong Government Scholarship Scheme. Started learning the piano at the age of 4, I won numerous prizes in different competitions including Asia Piano Open Competition, TOYAMA Asian Youth Music Competition, Inter-School International Performance Challenge and Hong Kong Schools Music Festivals. In 2018, I was also one of the finalists in the Liszt Memorial Prizes Hong Kong International Piano Open Competition. I have been actively engaged in music teaching since 2013. Starting my career in Opus 1 Arts Music Studio in Hong Kong, I continued inspiring the next generation when I moved to London in 2015, where I was appointed as the piano teacher in the Lanterns School of the Performing Arts London and London Music Centre.

Learning to play the piano is a wonderful and very diverse experience! Every beginner has to go through it in their own special way in order to realize one's personal aspirations. But sometimes, unfortunately, due to a lack of guidance and direction, the learning process may cause some difficulties followed by unexpected disappointment. Welcome to my piano teaching studio! I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons for students of all levels. As a pianist with over 14 years of teaching experience in Europe and the USA, as well as over 23 years of playing/performing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the learning process. If the student is interested in a more structured approach, I guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) piano and music theory exams where my students consistently receive highest marks. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions, masterclasses, and competitions in the Europe, the USA, India, and Canada. We have class concerts at Pianos Maene for interested students twice per year. I am happy to provide either a more relaxed or a serious approach to learning piano, we simply need to discuss the personal goals and preferences of each student. My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate performance degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music." Prior to this, I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth (USA). My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist and collaborative member in several orchestras, and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio in central Antwerp and look forward to meeting new students.

I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

In piano lessons, we use the book method of Notus or Hal Leonard. Everything is explained step by step and you gradually learn to read music and know the piano. At the start of our lessons we'll take a look at what is important to you. What goals do you want to set, and what feels achievable and comfortable? We set long-term goals of, for example, a year. Completely tailored to where you are at, right now. During the lessons I am patient, motivating, encouraging, and complimenting. The Tecla y Música Workshop is a space designed to learn and develop your musical and expressive sense through the piano and / or keyboards. The main objective is to learn to make music and enjoy the learning process and its results. The material with which we work (songs, instrumental pieces and exercises) is mainly oriented to your musical taste, and the choice is based on gradually expanding your technical and expressive possibilities, while exploring different musical styles. In this way, different tools are being incorporated to achieve, in a short term, mastery and fluency over the musical language and the instrument. Given that each student has different interests and concerns, whether playing as a hobby or developing a professional career, composing, improvising, etc., the orientation of the classes is built according to the possibilities and particular needs of each case. The work proposal implies a weekly class frequency to achieve optimal work dynamics and that the results are visible in a short term. There is also the possibility of taking isolated classes in order to solve a specific objective such as developing and perfecting some particular aspect of music practice and / or theory as well as preparing instrument exams or theoretical subjects for institutions of musical studies.

Hello and welcome to my music studio! It is absolutely fabulous that you are interested in music, and I hope you have lots and lots of fun with it! However, diving into the wonders of the piano/keyboard can be a bit overwhelming... and that is where I come in! This course is for anyone from complete beginners to advanced students, from lessons that focus completely on classical music to lessons that include or focus on the basics of jazz/pop. If you like to sing, we can also work on the basics of jazz/pop vocal, so you can learn to accompany yourself at the piano. In our lessons, technique will be an inherent part of the training, as well as analysis, basic music theory, and efficient ways of practicing music. In a nutshell, I am a professional pianist, vocalist, lyricist and blogger. Since 2014, I have taught in various music schools, teaching piano, ensemble, jazz vocal, and solfege. On a more elaborate note, I obtained my Master of Arts in classical piano, summa cum laude, at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent (KASK) in 2017, and studied as a Fulbrighter at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington USA during the 2019-2020 academic year. Every day, I strive to become a better musician and person, and I aim to transfer that passion to my students.
