STARTS IN APRIL (availability is from March 31st onwards) If you are serious about writing poetry, or even just a serious poetry reader, then join me for a guide to the poetry of London, while also having the chance to work together on your own writing inspired by the wanderings we will take. A particular focus will be south of the river, the docklands, and the square mile (the old city of London). Explore the worlds of - and delve into - Shakespeare, William Blake, Arthur Rimbaud and others and investigate the liminal places of London that have inspired many London poets. I will also be able to support your writing in online classes. You may have written for a long time, or just be taking a first step to find a safe environment to share your work with someone else. Writing can be such an enriching practice (which may even transform your life), but this doesn't mean it is easy or fulfilling all the way. There are bumps and blocks and tensions... one great way through them is to start to build a community... a good place to start can be to find someone to guide the process of writing and finding ways to support your creativity. I can also signpost to places to go and can guide you to group opportunities and communities, whatever your means. This is best done as a series of classes to reflect and work on your own work. I am a published poet and fiction writer and have worked as a writing tutor for 5 years. I have an MA in Creative Writing and am studying towards a PhD. I work as a writing mentor for poets and writers from many different backgrounds.

While some may find my method strict, I believe in teaching the rules thoroughly so that you can confidently break them later. What I Offer: Foundational Skills: Strengthen your abilities in line work, value, proportion, perspective, and texture to build a robust technical base. Composition & Framing: Understand how to structure engaging artwork through thoughtful layout, balance, and spatial design. Rigorous Critique: Receive honest, constructive feedback to identify areas for growth and refine your individual hand. Unique Assignments with Clear Goals: Each project is tailored to address specific skills or concepts: contrast, scale, accuracy, perspective, and still life vs narrative-driven styles are just a few examples. Diverse Areas of Focus: Explore various disciplines, including: 2D design Still-life Architectural drawing Human anatomy and figure drawing Portrait drawing Illustration Media and Techniques: I guide students in mastering traditional drawing media, including graphite, charcoal, conte, pen and ink, and technical pens. Additionally, if the student progresses, I will offer opportunities to explore printmaking techniques such as silverpoint, etching, and linocut to expand their artistic repertoire. My Approach and Expectations: I teach with the belief that discipline and dedication are essential for artistic growth. My sessions combine hands-on demonstrations, guided practice, and critical discussions to ensure students gain a comprehensive understanding of both technical and conceptual aspects of drawing. While I set high expectations, I also offer the support and tools needed for students to rise to the challenge. After most sessions, I assign homework to be completed by the next class. I certainly expect my younger students especially to complete these assignments. While my lessons are technical and follow strict parameters, there is plenty of opportunity for students to choose their own subjects and designs. I also highly recommend my student take excellent notes during my demonstrations and instruction time. I will always share my own notes and sketch journals so the student has a goal in mind. After a section of tuition has been completed (equal to a half term) I examine the notes and give feedback. Eli is a fantastic tutor who I highly recommend. She guided my daughter through her highschool math and was always there if questions arose. She really knows her math and is an excellent pedagogue, very good at explaining. She is accommodating when it comes to scheduling and can suggest what your child needs in order to do well with their studies. We tried several tutors in different subjects, but Eli was the only one we stuck with and our daughter really liked her.
