Hi! I am an experienced and passionate music teacher based in Hong Kong island. I teach effectively and focus on students’ individual development and comprehension. I am familiar with multiple kinds of psyche in the different age groups of students, including students with special needs. My qualifications: M.Mus. (Musicology) from Kyoto City University of Arts, Japan B.Mus. (Piano) from Ueno Gakuen University, Japan ABRSM Piano Performance Grade 8 Currently, I am a Ph.D. candidate in Musicology.

I hold a Master of Music degree in piano performance (with merit) at Goldsmiths, University of London and have taught piano and music theory to students in Hong Kong, Beijing, Zhejiang and London for over fifteen years. I welcome students from beginner to advanced level and am equally happy to help my students pass music exams or just learn to play piano for their own enjoyment. When teaching kids and beginners, I strictly follow the traditional conservatory method of training the postures, fingers and muscles properly from the very beginning of the learning process. And for kids, I highly recommend that parent(s) can help monitor their practice at home. For adult students, the most important thing is to analyse your performance, to find the problems that prevent you from playing better, face them and fix them. I provide creative solutions according to your conditions. I helped a senior student (60+ years old) to pass ABRSM Grade 8 with merit, a 20-year-old student to play keyboard and sing in his band after 10 lessons, and a high school student to get music scholarship in UK. I believe in the power of encouragement and motivation. And always remember, practice makes perfect. I teach in Mid-Levels West, Hong Kong. I teach through English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

I am an advanced musician, having achieved my Licentiate diploma in piano (with AMEB in Australia), my Associate diploma in flute (with AMEB in Australia), and my ACTL in music theory (with Trinity College). I taught piano throughout high school, University and on the side of my full-time career as a lawyer. I can teach beginners of all ages and students who are working towards Grade 6 or 7 standard of Trinity College or the equivalent. I am also happy to teach students who would like to learn for fun or for performances, rather than for exams. I make lessons fun, engaging, and motivational. I am extremely passionate about teaching. I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

I am a concert pianist currently living in Philadelphia! I am proud to have more than 20 awards from international piano competitions. I’m back in the states in Summer 2024. Here is my story: I started out as a jazz pianist but began dedicating myself to classical music around the age of 14. Two years later I was accepted to the prestigious Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory. I lived in Russia until the age of 18, and even back then I had major success in international piano competitions. I moved to the US to study with a Van Cliburn Gold medalist under a full scholarship at Park University. I later got my Master’s in piano performance at Yale University. While in the US, I played all over the country and won close to ten international piano competitions. During the past two years I have lived in Germany, where I tried to absorb as much experience as possible about the German piano tradition. I am a U.S. green card holder now. My strategy is to teach you to practice as efficiently as possible. Most people are wasting their time practicing the instrument, then get frustrated and eventually abandon it. I will show you how to make your practicing meaningful. The goal is to make it easier and more enjoyable, not harder. I would describe my approach as hands-on, but I am willing to give students as much freedom as they choose. I often ask my students to send me a video recording of their performance so that we can track progress and discuss our goals and objectives together. I send a detailed lesson summary and practice instructions at the end of every lesson. I try to be polite but straightforward. My job is to encourage you but also be clear about what is getting in your way. I am a perfectionist and encourage my students to push the bar as high as is possible at the moment. Although I have experience as a jazz pianist, my formal training is as a classical pianist and I prefer to offer only classical music lessons, yet the repertoire can range from early baroque to the most recent contemporary. My bachelor's degree at the Conservatory of Ghent (Belgium) taught me what music interpretation is. At the Peter Cornelis Conservatory I learned the important basics of cello and music teaching. 1/Faut d'abord écouter bien la musique pour s'imaginer comment jouer la musique au piano. 2/Puis ce qui est nécessaire c'est d'apprendre le solfège pour qu'après vous puissiez être fluide dans vos mouvements, c'est surtout cela le plus important.
