As a promoter Geni has been running, and raising funding for, Liverpool's 'Parrjazz' for 13 years, promoting UK jazz acts such as Soweto Kinch and Go Go Penguin alongside International guests such as Snarky Puppy and Ghost - Note Geni is also a tutor at Liverpool university and WaterBear college of Music, and has worked as private mentor for many years, also on Breaking The Record, a programme created to empower women in music.

I have experience in teaching different levels and age groups, from beginner children and grown-ups to advanced youngsters, age 6-60. I teach both soprano, tenor and alto saxophone. He studied at the "Musikene" (Higher Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country) with Eric Devallon, Tomás Jérez, Antonio Felipe Belijar and Miguel Ángel Lorente. Passionate about multidisciplinary artistic creation, he thinks of the mixing of all the arts in the same show as an aesthetic goal. This type of research could be observed in his project for his final master's recital in Brussels where he created a project based on Maslow's theory of the hierarchy of human needs where he mixed live, recorded music, dance, light shows and effects under the name: “according to Maslow... ” In terms of his career as a concert artist, he has played in different ensembles (solo performances, duo, trio, quartet, orchestra...) and different countries such as Japan (Artisanal Musical Fair "Suono Italia" 2010), Belgium (Festival Musiq3 2016), Artonov Festival at BOZAR in 2016...), France (Dax chamber music festival 2011) or Spain (Music Festival “Quincena Musical” 2015, Aste Nagusia 2015, Heineken Jazzaldia 2014, Festival Kutxa 2015, Intercentros Melómano 2010).

In the classes we will address the different elements that make up music in different styles, knowing the particular language of each one. To do this, we will work on the different tools that we have with each instrument at the level at which each one is. We all know music but many times they make us believe that no, that it is necessary to know how to read and write. That is the graphic part of the language that we will learn little by little, music is a compendium of many other things. Some that we already know and others to know. We will study the use of the keys and the positions of the clarinet, or the sax, the best way to position ourselves whether we play standing or sitting, the most efficient way to use the air, the diaphragm, the muscles. We will learn to form a good embouchure and we will develop a study method adapted to each one, according to their tastes, possibilities and interests. I work with boys and girls from different parts of the world as well as with adults and the elderly. In my experience I learned that, truly, the greatest limitation that we find ourselves is the very feeling of not being able, of believing that we cannot. The support of a dedicated teacher is essential to get out of those places where we accidentally enter and that sometimes limit us. We all feel that sometime. It is time for us to remedy it. I will provide my own materials in pdf, video and audio. There is no age limit.

I teach instrumental lessons (face to face from my Music Studio and online) on flute, piano, singing, saxophone and clarinet, as well as music theory. I also offer general musical skills sessions for young children who are not quite old enough to learn one specific instrument yet. I have experience as a Music Teacher and Lecturer for schools and colleges, so I also offer help with GCSE and A-Level Music. I attend regular Safeguarding training and I have an advanced DBS on the update service. I also have experience working with children who have special educational needs and EHCP’s. Learning music and an instrument as well as being part of a group or ensemble, is about much more than becoming a performer. The skills and techniques learnt, are incredibly versatile for use in other subjects as well as being valuable life skills. I choose repertoire of various genres for students to explore different sounds and styles, with some being quicker to learn but effective, to build a more instant satisfaction and confidence within the group, while other pieces are more technical, allowing students to challenge themselves. As well as being a solo Flautist, Singer, and Saxophonist, I am part of an acoustic Classical Flute and Guitar duo, a Folk duo, a Jazz ensemble and a Folk Rock band, performing at weddings, private functions, festivals and events.

Are you a beginner?? No worries: no experience is required! 😁 I can teach you the basics to produce sounds with your saxophone: position of the embouchure (teeth, tongue, lips and vocal cords' position, an element often forgotten), fingerings, use of diafragma,... After the first two lessons spent on the mouthpiece and neck for the sound production, we will immediately start to play some super easy duos together to practice your capacity of listening, pay attention to the other, ear training as well. I normally use the book of Peter Wastall (titled Learn as you play) as support, but it is not mandatory. There are plenty of good books btw! Are you an intermediate / advanced student?? I am sure you can still improve in all the basics, but on a different level. I'll teach you the importance of the "voicing" (technique named by the american saxophonist and pedagogue Donald Sinta) to improve your sound production and projection as well as the capacity of correcting and improving the intonation. You can learn all about phrasing and music interpretation, from tonal music until contemporary atonal compositions. And still, you can improve your playing together, practicing in duo on different aspects like tuning, balance, interpretation, performance etc. Book a lesson and try!
