Hello! My name is Beatriz and I am a violin and viola teacher! I have a bachelor's degree in music and two master's degrees in music performance! Feeling good with your body and listening to it, understanding where the sound comes from and how to produce it, learning the basics and how to read the notes and the score, learning tricks and daily exercises without the instrument to help you develop your agility and muscles, playing together duets to get closer to the chamber music world and to learn how to listen and collaborate with others. I think it's important to listen also to the student's requests and desires; if you have a tune or a piece that you would love to play we can work on it together. Folk music is also an interesting way through which we can get closer to the instrument and the music world, playing traditional dances from different countries and discovering different music languages. As every person has his own physiognomy and musculature, we will try to find together a correct and comfortable posture that better suits the student to create a connection with the instrument. Warming-up and taking care of our body is part of a musician's life (beginner, amateur or professional) and it is important to prevent injuries and muscle pain. Unfortunately this aspect is not often taken into account and for this reason I aim to transmit this value to my students.

Passionate violist and student at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva, I hope to be able to transmit the taste for this instrument, by teaching as well as by playing it. I have been fortunate enough to be able to live in the UK for several years, which results in an excellent knowledge of the ABRSM structure in which 100% of the exams presented by my students have been passed.

How do you learn and what are your goals in learning music? I aim to make learning music as interesting and accessible as possible. I use a scaffolded approach to teaching that pairs physically sustainable playing techniques (Alexander Technique) with built-upon previous knowledge and interests. I hold MM and BM degrees from New York University and The University of Iowa and studied with Melissa White and Gregory Fulkerson for the entirety of my Masters of Music at New York University. I am a violinist and violist currently living and working in New York City. I have played in such venues as Lincoln Center Summer Stages, Carnegie Hall, Duomo di Orvieto, among others. I grew up playing bluegrass with my parents and now genre-hop among traditional classical music, contemporary classical, pop, singer-songwriter, musical theater, jazz, avant-garde, and folk. For these reasons and more, I enjoy tailoring the repertoire and technique education to the student's goals and interests. I have taught 3 year olds, elementary kids, high schoolers, college students, and adult learners, and enjoyed all within the age range for various reasons.

My course is for all types of people (young, old, old) who want to make music later or just for leisure, whatever, the main thing is to get started!
