About Me

My name is Oscar, I'm a recent graduate from Edinburgh University with first class honours in Economics. I have worked as a part-time tutor for 3 years, working with students up to A-level focusing on maths, economics and physics, helping them to learn, revise and ultimately succeed in their school exams. I achieved 11 A*s at GCSE and 2A*s and 2 As at A-level, and really enjoy passing on my knowledge and learning techniques to other students. I am easy to get on with, patient, and really care about helping others to do well.

Education

I joined Rugby School aged 13 and there achieved 11 A*s at GCSE. From there I went to St. Paul's School and sat my A Levels in Maths (A*), Further Maths (A), Physics (A*) and Economics (A). Since then I have been studying Economics at Edinburgh University for four years, and I graduated this year with a first.

Experience / Qualifications

I have worked with students since 2020 in my time off from studying helping them to overcome barriers to their academic success. Predominately I have tutored Maths (up to A-level) but I have also tutored sciences to GCSE as well as younger students including those taking school entrance exams. I am also well placed to tutor Economics up to A level.

Math Tutoring For High and Primary Schools' Pupils
I have 10 years unbroken experience teaching Maths and social sciences to high school students. Since greater proportion of the students population at the colleges are struggling in their performance in maths, I am passionate about teaching maths only for now so as to help as much maths students as possible. I make my first tutorial class free so as to develop rapport with a prospective maths student and to enable me identify the areas they need improvement in their performance. The first half of my tuition starts with the fundamental principles of mathematics, showing the students various clues and hints to use in answering maths questions. Special reference is made to acceptable standard marking scheme so the student can understand each topic better and develop more affection for solving mathematical problems. At the second half of my teaching, several examples are worked together with the student, ensuring that the student is fully engaged in the exercises, assimilating the concepts and contributing meaningfully. At the end of the second half of the tutorial, a lot of exercises are given to students as take-home assignments. The submitted assignments are reviewed, scored before the next appointment and corrections made one-to-one with the student next tutorial session. The topics covered are not limited to the core concentration like algebra, trigonometry, calculus, statistics to mention a few, they extend to elementary maths. If the gap in understanding a topic is much, elementary maths is revised with the student prior to teaching any of the core maths topics.
