However I can help you perfectionate sound and timing, rhythm, vibrato, etc..., work on the accuracy of the reading and at the same time make it sound musical and human. I focus on giving saxophone lessons to people with a solid or basic foundation who wants to improve or start improvising. This course is especially for those who feel stagnant in improving their music skills. I will actively analyse your areas for improvement and provide personal guidance and methods. I am very aware that each person thinks differently while improvising: personal exercises are given, depending on your needs. Applied music theory lessons are a support of this class. I integrate chord theory into practical saxophone lessons, making a key connection between ear and theory. I started playing classical saxophone, and I am currently a Jazz saxophone student at the conservatory of Brussels. Switching to Jazz made me analyse my own behaviour in improvising, which I find a crucial step in development. Feel free to reach out! I am also happy to give lessons to complete beginners or children as well.

Experience has taught me that it is very important to build a warm, trusting relationship with students, especially the very young ones. Bringing laughter, a sense of humour, games, and creating imaginative stories with music are my motives throughout the lesson. The goals and character of each student guides the teaching approach I adopt - some students enjoy learning for the joy of music, whilst others prefer to aim for recognised qualifications or grades. In both cases I aim to make learning enjoyable. I always encourage all my students, of whatever age or ability, to do some simple improvisation, and have developed several ways to facilitate this. I emphasise developing technique and music theory as they make the foundation of becoming a good musician throughout life.

Learning how to play cello can be very frustrating sometimes if you don’t find the right exercises or motivation. Maybe you just want to learn how to play some song of your liking, or maybe you want to start to become a professional musician. Either way, I like to work with music and find the best way for my students to enjoy the lessons and learn at their own rythm.

For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease. If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session. Whether you play a single line instrument (flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin etc.) or keyboard instruments, this class is for you.
