Cello lessons for everyone given by a very friendly Australian!

Translated by Google. Click to view original.
Cello lessons for everyone, beginners to advanced students (e.g. Conservatory).

I always strive to create a positive, confidence-building experience in every lesson, whether the student does it for fun or wants to set higher goals for themselves.

I would like to offer my full dedication to you or your child, whether playing the instrument for the first time or in preparation for auditions, competitions, a career as a professional cellist and everything in between!

Each lesson is tailored to the individual wishes and needs of the student, for which I can use a range of learning materials - which also includes many duets that we can play together as student and teacher!

You don't have to know exactly what you want yet; together we can discuss and try it out to see what will work best for you; I will guide you in the right direction! So please don't hesitate to ask me any questions you may have.

I usually teach at my home, but I am happy to come to you depending on accessibility and travel time by bicycle, tram or train.

Extra information

Students under the age of 12 must have a parent present.

I like to teach in Dutch, English is my mother tongue; So if you prefer to receive lessons in that language for practice, that is also possible. Moreover, I like to teach German in German for German speakers.

Students must have their own cello and tools (at least a bow, rosin, cleaning cloth and floor protector; preferably also an iPad or device to send and print sheet music electronically). Unfortunately, I cannot deliver this myself, but I can take you to the service providers.

Although I try to stick to the same weekly class times, this may necessarily change due to performance requirements.

For toddlers, children under 12 years old or as desired, lessons can be shortened to, for example, 15-20 minutes, for which I charge the same as for half an hour.

About Me

Translated by Google. Click to view original.
Hello! I am an Australian professional cellist now living in Liège.

I'm delighted to bring my skills and experience to Belgium and draw on those from my fellow artists and citizens here.

I love teaching people of all ages and levels, helping them learn and develop as best I can, and firmly believe in positive teaching methods.

I recently graduated with distinction from the Master of Music degree program at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp in the class of Professor Olsi Leka, and am now seeking to establish myself here as a teacher and performer.

I already perform occasionally as a cellist with the Belgian National Orchestra and performed frequently in Australia with leading orchestras such as the Opera Australia Orchestra resident in the famous Sydney Opera House, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and the Canberra Symphony Orchestra of the national capital.

I've also performed at hundreds of important occasions of all kinds, personal and institutional, and taught at prestigious as well as small schools; all experiences which have been meaningful, each in their own way.

I am a product of different teaching methods including Suzuki and can teach in whatever way the student likes or finds most enjoyable and beneficial. There is no single right way to learn, but I certainly take utmost care to avoid the wrong ways!

Lessons normally take place at my house in the old city center but traveling may be possible by negotiation.

I am more than happy to teach in English, Dutch or German, and soon enough in French of course too.

I look forward very much to fielding your inquiries and embarking together on a wonderfully enriching journey!

All levels and all purposes are welcome! When it comes to learning a language, there’s no replacement for learning from a native speaker. I work with students so that they get the best value for their time and effort. Above all, language learning should be enriching and enjoyable! Please free to ask any questions.

Harples, piano lessons, solfège - for all levels and ages - Mechelen, Antwerp, Bonheiden region
The content of the lessons is adapted to the needs and wishes of each student. It is possible to follow a combination of music theory and instrument, or only focus on one aspect. Depending on the student's goal, the level, teaching method and music styles are adjusted and personalized in consultation. Together we will look at what your learning needs are and which method suits you best. I am familiar with different styles for both harp and piano, from classical music (baroque, impressionism, classicism, romanticism and contemporary music), to folk music, jazz standards, pop songs or minimalist music. There is also the option to work from improvisations. The lessons are suitable for all ages and levels, the personal profile of the student is central.

Guitar lessons for all levels: Jazz, Rock, Blues, Rnb, Hip hop, etc!
If you want to get better at playing the guitar and music in general, this class is for you. Over the years of playing and studying music with guitar as my main instrument, I have amassed a great deal of knowledge, skill, information, etc. which I would like to share with all the seekers. There are endless subjects to be discussed when it comes to music and guitar. And, since everyone is different and is aiming at a different goal, I do not use a "one size fits all" approach with these lessons. However, a number of topics could be touched upon and thoroughly studied. Some of the standard topics that I could cover in the lesson are as follows: 1. Chords, voicing, etc. 2. Playing tunes 3. Improvisation 4. Arrangement 5. Transcription 6. Harmony analysis 7. Technique 8. Arpeggios 9. Ear training 10. listening 11. Playing in a group 12. Recording guitar And more...

Bass Guitar and Music Theory Lessons || Online and Private
I teach bass guitar which is my main instrument of 12 years, to all ages. I have experience mainly teaching it to beginners and intermediates. The classes are structured to cover basics of bass playing in terms of both technique and theory. One may expect to have exercises as weekly assignments. These exercises are weekly put together by me using a variety of bass method books. The weight of music theory, harmony and ear training within what we cover can be rearranged according to the needs and expectations of the student.

Cello lessons and Conservatory preparation
Cello Lessons for all levels: My main goal with my teaching is to share my passion for music with my students. I believe strongly that this passion leads to discipline and curiosity which benefit all other aspects of one's life. Whether or not my students decide to pursue music as their main profession, I believe they have much to gain from learning the cello. Besides the discipline one learns, Music-making in itself is fulfilling!! :) Conservatory Preparation: In my experience as a musician living and working in Belgium for the past 6 years, I have noticed a gap in the musical education of young Belgian music students transitioning from Music academies into Conservatories. Oftentimes, these young music students seeking to enter conservatories do not possess the necessary skill level to enter higher education in Music. Through my private teaching, I intend to bridge this gap by catering specifically (though not exclusively) to these students. I strongly believe that there is a huge demand for this type of teaching which I am capable of providing.

Music Composition - GCSE and A-Level Students - Beginners to Advanced
This class is designed for GCSE and A-Level music students eager to develop their composition skills in line with exam requirements. With a focus on originality and creativity, we will explore compositional techniques, musical structures, and stylistic understanding across a variety of genres. Each session will offer practical exercises and guided tasks tailored to exam criteria, encouraging students to build confidence and express their unique musical voice. Through regular feedback, constructive discussions, and assignment of relevant exercises between lessons, students will gain a deeper understanding of music theory, harmony, and instrumentation to enhance their compositions. My goal is to challenge students to think independently and to prepare them thoroughly for the composition components of their music exams, all within a supportive and engaging online environment.

Piano Lessons (Classical Music and Non classical), Music Theory, Harmony, Musical Arrangement, Composition
At my studio my students will not only learn how to play the piano, but they will receive a complete musical education in order to achieve their musical dreams. I will give all my best so everybody will get the tools for developing their own voice, helping them to master the instrument and teaching them all the theoretical knowledge they’ll need to make their particular personality shine. Openness, joy, dedication, creativity and passion for music are some of the things that you will find in the international environment of my studio. I care about who my students are and what they have to say to the world, and I will help them to develop it from the very first lesson. In my class you will not only be able to receive piano lessons but also will learn to understand how the music works as a language. If the interest and the profile of the student goes in the direction of the purely classical music performance, the lessons will be focused on a deep and conscious piano technique development, practicing techniques, musical interpretation, history of music, history of the piano, applied harmony on the keyboard, analysis, and score reading by a method that I have developed for over 15 years of experience. And if the students wish, I can help them to prepare for the ABRSM exams and competitions as well. All this is aiming to achieve in a very practical and exciting experience the best results in the fastest way possible. But if the profile and the interests of the students goes on another way, I will give them all the tools they need to understand the language of music in depth, so they can find their own voice on the instrument. In that case the lessons will include contents of piano technique, score reading, applied harmony on the keyboard, composition, improvisation, musical arrangement, music production, recording techniques, jazz and pop music analysis and performance. Both programs can be combined depending on the focus and the profile of the student, or in case the student would like to go deeper in one of the previously mentioned subjects there is the opportunity to take an independent course of specialization on the desired topic. At the end of the semester every student will perform at the winter and summer concerts held every year and will have the possibility of making a recording session with the material worked during the term. With this, the student will not only be able to see his progress and work, but also will give him a direct experience of performing and working on a live or studio recording session, which is a fundamental part of the developing process of every musician. Hope you can join and if so, I’ll be very happy to teach you!

Classical and modern cello classes in Barcelona
(Important! The schedules are now closing with the students I already have, so it is difficult to specify a definitive schedule for September) Hello! I have been teaching classes continuously for more than 10 years and I would like to explain what you can find in a class with me! - To begin with, the most important thing is to know what you want to achieve. I would like to focus the classes according to what you need. For example, we will not put the same level of demand if you want to play for pleasure at home without haste or if you want to do some entrance exams to musical studies (although always with the same good rigor). The needs of each student can vary the methodology, the way of organizing the study sessions, the postural work, the repertoire... - Once we know what we want to achieve and by when, classes will begin in a relaxed atmosphere. Important! Relaxed is not equal to undemanding or rigorous, just that we will try not to resort to military methods, especially given my character and sense of humor ;). - Something important to note is that my methods are very dynamic and with special emphasis on the development of the ear and musicality. No reading, spitting and changing songs. I try to avoid methods that focus too much on the continuous reading of scores without memorizing, listening or understanding what is being done and why, especially so that later you can make your own aesthetic decisions and feel ownership of your performance. Alert! Maybe I'll even make you sing. - Last but not least, it should be noted that given my training (I studied classical music and modern music and jazz at the Taller de Músics) my tendency will be to give the same importance to different types of music. We will adapt to your tastes and needs, but for me we can go from baroque to blues, from blues to Haydn's sonatas, from Haydn to bebop and from bebop to Michael Jackson. Why not? If you like what you have read, do not hesitate to contact me. Learning to play the cello is a pleasure and I would love to share it with you!

Richard
Private guitar lessons for every level: from basic chords to out of the box improvisation
Hey! My name is Richard and I give private lessons to all levels. For guitar, it is important that you can improve yourself in a pleasant environment in a fun way where your interests are central. Do you want to delve deeper into a certain style? Do you want to create your own sound on your guitar using amps, and pedals, ...? I can help you with all that! Knowledge of solfège or music theory is not required, we can always discuss this in class if you wish, but that is certainly not mandatory ;) I have been playing the guitar since I was 9 years old and for several years now I have been playing in professional bands with which I have been able to play on sugar rock, for example. The lessons would take place at my home in Mol or via webcam. If necessary, we can always agree on something else. Be sure to let me know if you have any questions and I will answer as soon as possible. See you soon! Richard PS: my specified hours are a guideline, if this does not suit you, you can certainly send us a message and we will try to arrange something :)

Vocal Technique “Vocal Sensations” (English & Spanish)
I teach vocal technique through body awareness. We’ll dive into the essential principles of singing: breath, resonance, and articulation. We’ll start with some breathing exercises to get warmed up, followed by vocal exercises to work on technique, and then you’ll get to sing a song of your choice. We’ll also bust some common myths about singing, and you’ll be amazed at how much you can learn in such a short time! It’s going to be a lot of fun!
