Drum lessons (individual, ensemble playing, ear training, theory and more!)

The drumset is one of the most important and powerful instruments in a music ensemble. It does not only provide the rhythm and groove foundation for all the other instruments - it also defines the sound of the band, the character of the songs, the volume... just like an orchestra conductor.

In these lessons (which are of course personalized and open depending on the interests of the student) we will work beyond the physical/mechanical aspect of the drums (technique, coordination, etc) into the musical aspect, so we will spend some time listening and analyzing music together, working on ear training and music theory from a practical point of view.

    About Me

Hi! My name is Eloi, I am a drummer and composer based in The Netherlands, originally from Vigo, Spain.

I've been active playing the drums since a very young age and even though I nowdays do this professionally, I always try to keep that same relationship I had back then with the instrument and music. Curiosity and pleasure from listening/making music are the reasons I do what I do, and that's what I intend to nurture as a teacher, as well as complementing it and reinforzing it with knowledge and tools to improve one's skills and awareness.

I can be a guide and a source of information, but one's best teacher is oneself. So teaching how to follow one's heart and imagination is also one of my priorities as a docent.

    Education

    2012 High school
2014 Middle degree in Classical Percussion, CMUS Vigo
2014-17 Jazz Ensemble seminar at SPJP, Pontevedra
2021 Bachelor in Jazz drums at Conservatorium van Amsterdam

    Experience / Qualifications

My connection with the drumset started very early, when I was just 3 years old. Back then I quickly realized how happy I was everytime I had drumsticks in my hands. I played on pots and pans and eventually on a toy drumet, until I started getting my first lessons together with classical training at age 6.

At age 13 I decided to leave my room and began making music with other people, joining and creating bands which revolved around rock and metal. When I was 16 I was already immersed in the scene of my hometown Vigo, growing exponentially and getting more opportunities to play with different projects and diverse styles of music.

By the time I finished my classical training at age 20 I was already established in the scene, but my curiosity got totally driven to jazz, shifting my studies and focusing on learning the tradition and language.

At age 23 I moved to Amsterdam to study jazz at the CvA. I've been active in the Dutch scene ever since, playing regularly with great players of my generation such as Ella Zirina, Chaerin Im, Martí Mitjavila, Teemu Kekkonen... Since I graduated in 2021 I also lead my own trio "Amarea", focused exclusively on my compositions.

Learn MUSIC PRODUCTION in a professional studio: Including composition, arrangement, performance, recording, mixing and mastering.
The basic course takes you through all the elements you need to professionally write and produce music; with specialties ranging from record production to writing for media i.e. T.V and film. Learn all the pitfalls and save yourself years of pain! :) Skills I take you through are: 1. Music finishing; e.g. lyrics, arrangements, programming drums and synth parts. 2. Performance and recording techniques - setting up microphones, and hands on exploring the different types and 'colours' they record. How to record real synths and find the correct sounds for your music. Re-amping guitars and anything else to give your music more life! 3. Mixing; Using Pro Tools HD, Logic and Ableton, an SSL mixer with lots of classic 'outboard' equipment as well as the latest plugins on board the computer. 4. Mastering; The final stage of releasing music is making it sounds amazing on all systems. A course is tailor-made to suit the desire of the student - from recording and releasing your own music, to film audio post-production and sound design and everything else in-between. I have more than 30 years in the music industry, previously working at BBC Radio 1/1xtra station, and also at Jools Holland's Helicon Mountain studios in West London. I am eager to share what I have learnt over the years in a really friendly environment - it's perfect to take home all the knowledge you need to write from anywhere in the coming years.

Private oboe lessons for all levels in Amsterdam and the North Holland region
During my oboe lessons, enjoying music is central. The double reed plays an important role in both the sound and the ease of playing the oboe. I make sure there is always a reed that plays nicely. In addition, I will pay a lot of attention to the way of blowing. This is the basis that ensures that the students can have fun and make music right from the start. . Making music together is the best thing there is, so I like to play along with the students in a duet. I guide advanced students in developing their (musical) creativity and, if they wish, I offer reed lessons. In these lessons I give tips for updating reeds and explain all the steps of the reed making process.

Drum lessons for beginners and intermediate in Amsterdam
Hello! I'm Nina, a drummer from Amsterdam. I am currently studying pop/rock drums at the Herman Brood Academy in Utrecht. I play in 2 bands. I also play in many different session projects (from pop to rock). I work a lot with hybrid drums (triggers and SPD) and also teach them with Ableton. The studio is located in the Q-Factory in Amsterdam with two professional drum kits and sound system. In addition, I can occasionally offer a lesson in Utrecht! If all this is too far or for some other reason not reachable, lessons at home and / or online are also possible! We can work on, among other things: - Hand technique (how do I hold my sticks? Or which stick technique do I use for different music styles?) Creativity (how can I ultimately make cool parts on the drums myself? Or different parts than what you initially came up with?) - Improvisation (lots of playing and trying!) - Timing (playing along with songs, with click tracks, how can I become more playful with the click?) - Relaxed posture - Drum notation (learning to read drum notes) - New fills, grooves and beats - Sound (how do I tune my drums? which drum sound do I want for different types of music?) - Hybrid drums (working with samples on the SPD and/or triggers) in combination with Ableton And of course we will play along to your favorite songs a lot! I especially hope that I can create lessons together with you that match what you like and what you would like to learn. All levels and ages are welcome!

Saxophone lessons: Enjoy becoming an all-round musician (EN, NL, HB)
Enjoy becoming an independent & all-round musician!! My aim as a Saxophone & music teacher is to give you the ability to develop skills that will make you enjoy "music-making" and love exploring all kinds of songs/musical pieces. Also, I give you tools to be able to cooperate with other musicians. The methods I use are focused around goals that I create together with each individual student (and/or parents). Our goals are based on both the student's passion & musical desires together with the technical needs to make these desires sound! (control over the instrument, reading music notation, music theory, Improvisation, composition, ear-training and more). Music is a powerful language that everyone around the world can understand, but not all can speak yet... Music-making involves Joy, curiosity, self-expression and a feeling of being a part of something bigger than yourself! Practical Info: - Normally, lessons take place at my location in Amsterdam. (call to discuss other options) - I work with both kids (from age 8/9) and adults, (total) beginners, amateurs & semiprofessionals alike - I play & teach: Soprano, Alto, Tenor & Baritone Saxophones (Flute & Bass-Clarinet for beginners as well) ** FOR PARENTS ** - Music making teaches you about how to build long-lasting dedication & successful work ethics that can be implemented throughout life, in any filed! - Music teaches you how to express thoughts & feelings and can be important for a growth of a child. - Music is a rich lifestyle, and opening a child to that world is a great gift that a parent can give to his/her child.
