Cello lessons for beginners and advanced students.

My name is Wilma, and I have been playing the cello for most of my life. I am passionate about teaching, and have a lot of experience with it.

In my lessons, there is a good balance between technique and musicality. Knowing how to (technically) play the cello is important for being able to express yourself on it, and making beautiful music is the reason we play!

I involve my students in the process of investigating problems and experimenting with solutions. This gives people a better understanding of the challenges, and motivates them to engage with those.

It is particularly interesting that every person has a different way of learning and different needs, and I enjoy tailoring my approach to each student's personality, requirements and tastes, so she or he can optimally learn.

Above all, I love inspiring people, seeing them discover their own aptitude for music and growing as musicians. Playing the cello is a wonderful and fun experience and I heartily welcome anyone who would like to come on this adventure!

I teach in Amsterdam on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, in Zaandam in Thursdays, and in Utrecht on Saturdays.

Extra information

When following cello lessons, you need to have your own cello so you can practice at home. It isn't necessary to have your own cello for the first lesson yet, however. So if you're curious and don't have a cello yet, that's no problem! After the first lesson, I can give you information about places to rent a cello. There are many, and it's inexpensive.

Very nice first lesson. Clear explanation, friendly and professional. At the end of the lesson we immediately played a duet and it went well.

Hi! My name is Wilma, and I’m a professional cellist. I’ve been playing the cello for most of my life. When I was 3 years old, I saw a woman playing cello on the street, and I fell in love. A year later I started with lessons, and I’ve been enjoying this gorgeous instrument ever since. In my teaching, I look for an approach that works best for each student individually, and challenge them at their own level. Technique and musicality are equally important, and very much connected in my lessons. I approach the instrument with respect to the functioning of the body as a whole, and look for a way of playing that requires the least amount of effort and unnecessary muscular tension, so that the naturally beautiful sound of the cello can be more free to emerge. I enjoy teaching both children and adults, from beginners to advanced players. At the moment, my students are between the ages of 5-80 years, from absolute beginners to very advanced cellists. For young children, it’s important that a parent can listen along to the lessons, and help them to practice at home. A child’s lesson is different from a grown-up’s: with children I do more games, to introduce them to music in a playful manner, and allow them to get comfortable with the technique without having to think about it too much. With children I also work more auditively, e.g. by playing and singing for them and letting them copy that instead of reading notes right away. Whether you would like to learn to play the cello, refine your skills, or further develop yourself as a musician, I would be delighted to join, accompany and guide you on your musical journey. I speak English, Dutch and Afrikaans, and am happy to teach in any of these languages.

Irene
Experienced cello teacher gives private lessons to all ages, both online and in person
Hello! I am Irene, a graduated Master student at HKU Utrecht Conservatorium, and I offer cello lessons to people of all ages, both online and in person. I have more than 7 years of experience teaching both adults and children, in private lessons, group lessons and music schools. I have also taught music theory and piano to beginners. The lessons could work in different ways: regular lessons every one or two weeks, or just a couple of times, etc. I have had students that only wanted to learn a bit, and I also have students that have continued for some years with me. I could also adjust the duration of the lessons from 30mins (especially for younger kids) to 1h. The lessons can be in English and Spanish, and now also in Nederlands! (work in progress!) The lesson can be in the student's home or in my studio in Vogelenbuurt, and also online! Flexible hours. I give personalised attention and methods to each one of my students, as everyone is different! If you have questions, please contact me! I hope to see you soon!

Alina
Online Cello Lessons. All ages and levels are welcome
Hi! My name is Alina, I am 22 years old, and I would like to offer you cello lessons. Let me tell you about my education. I completed my bachelor’s degree at the Poznańs Music Academy in Poland, and this year I will finish my master’s degree in Bolzano, Italy. In addition, I completed a three-year pedagogical course in Poland, so I am confident in my abilities to be a good teacher for both adults and children. On my lessons, we can work together to develop a pathway for achieving your professional goals or also learn playing for your personal pleasure.

Elisenda
Classical or Baroque cello lessons in the centre of Utrecht
I don't remember my life without the cello in it. I started when I was 7 years old, so it has accompanied me for my whole life through very important moments and difficult decisions. But, above all, it has brought me a joy I haven't found in anything else other than music. That's my main motu propio when it comes to sharing that experience with people, and also when teaching. I want everyone to feel that plenitude with music and specifically with the playing of an instrument.

Gabriel
Gabriel- Enthusiastic cello teacher and active performer based in Utrecht, Oudegracht. All ages are welcome!
We learn through passion. The more we feel we can receive learning, the more it is transmitted through passion. I was lucky enough to have very good teachers throughout my education and now I want to pass on my knowledge to my students. In my teaching, I want to "read" the student sitting in the room with me and conclude which of the many possibilities might work specifically for him or her. I was trained as a classical musician and over the years I also found folk music very interesting because it connects you with the stories and traditions of a certain country or region. With this I want to say that different types of music are welcome in my lessons. If you like music, if you like the warm sound of the cello, try a lesson and see how it goes. You're welcome.

Cello lessons for children, teenagers and adults. Also, music theory and chamber music lessons.
Have you always wanted to play a bow string instrument but have never dared? Are you advanced cellist and you want to increase your playing level? Restarting the cello after a break and you need some inspiration and help? In my lessons I will teach you classical repertoire of the cello, but also, if you wish, we can work on some alternative repertoire. Moreover, we will work on technical aspects (bowings, left hand) as well as how to create the healthiest posture to play cello. You will find with me the endless possibilities of this instrument. Furthermore, if you need some coach for your chamber music group, I can help you. Chamber music has been always integrated in my music education.

Enrico
Cello lesson for all ages and levels (also by Skype)
Hello everyone, I'm Enrico and I come from Italy. Right now I am in Utrecht where I am doing a master's degree in cello under the guidance of Timora Rosler. During my years of studies I always had the possibility to teach music, in fact while I was doing my Bachelor in Italy at the Conservatory of Turin, I taught cello and music theory in a private music school called "Isla de Musiqueros", in this school I had the opportunity to teach people of all ages, including children under 4 years old. When I moved to the Netherlands little by little I started to find students and many many concerts. I believe that playing is the best way to have fun and express your emotions, the work I want to do is work on tensions and try to help you melt away while playing, in this way you can have more sound and feel more free. Technique is also very important in the everyday life of a musician, together we can see the best exercises for you, to help you improve and have more confidence with the instrument.

Zhanshu
Individual cello lessons – from beginners to professionals.
I am Zhanshu, a cellist from China with extensive experience in cello playing and music education. I previously obtained my Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in the UK and then completed my Master's degree at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Germany. I currently teach at several music schools and have experience teaching students of all ages and ability levels. Through my many years of teaching practice, I have gained valuable experience and can develop an individually tailored curriculum for each student. I offer flexible lesson times, which can be booked in different lengths (30, 45, 60, 90 minutes). I believe that every student has a unique musical potential, so I always adapt my lessons to the needs and goals of my students to help them progress in both technique and musical expression.

Ayla
Cello, Piano and Music lessons in Utrecht Centrum. All levels and different genres!
My goal as a music teacher is to make the students able to experience all types of emotions by playing music, understanding the musical process from its roots with a creative approach. My lessons are designed according to the specific needs of each student and the main objective is to guide them in the optimal direction to achieve their full potential in a fun way. Thereby, the instrument becomes a tool to understand what making music really means and will be a way for the student to express his emotions. My approach to the lessons can provide a lot of creativity, fun and originality. How will my lessons look like From the first lesson, the student will start making music. We will begin learning the basic concepts of music, developing listening and rhythmic skills with fun exercises. Lessons will also be focused on learning the basics of music theory, creating a solid technical base and paying special attention to having a relaxed and healthy body posture. My academic and professional experience has helped me create a teaching method where improvisation is an essential tool for the student. I enjoy working on it from the beginning since it is a perfect way to develop musicality. Playing different music genres together As a musician, another of my sources of inspiration is to get to know and to learn from different styles, playing and experimenting with music from the classical period until the most avant-garde style. During the lessons, we will play pop, jazz, classical and many other styles. I would like to explore the instrument with the student in a fun way, growing, improving, and discovering new ways of making music together. During the lessons the students and I could play together, either playing some duos with the cello or accompanying them with the piano, which is an activity that I really enjoy. Playing together with more people and with a polyphonic instrument from the beginning will give the student clues to learn how to play in ensembles and listen to all the different voices that can be part of any musical composition.
