Students will learn the fundamentals characteristics of sound and digital audio, creative ways of composing music and an introduction to signal processing such as equalization, compression, delay, and reverb. In addition to core audio and mixing concepts, students will learn various production techniques, such as sequencing, arranging, automation, using virtual instruments (eg synths, samplers, and drum machine plugins), working with MIDI, plugin formats such as VST / Audio -Units, and mapping digital USB controllers for the studio and live performances. The past twenty years have been revolutionary for music production. Nowadays you can record, produce and release your own music with your laptop and some simple peripherals. This is done with a music program called a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) in which you can edit sound. But as everyone has noticed who starts such a program: it's not easy! Hundreds of buttons and menus and a specific workflow ensure that you do not just get the sound you want. I use and teach two of the most widely used DAWs: Ableton Live and Studio One, which take us through all the steps from recording sound, using samples to editing and mixing. Due to my studies at the Rock Academy and the Musicology department of the UU and my more than ten years of experience as a professional guitarist, bassist and music producer, I have extensive knowledge of all aspects of the professional field.
