MUSIC CONDUCTING CLASS: Learn how to conduct an orchestra, band, choir or ensemble

Leading a group of musicians. Conducting is a necessary part of every performance with an orchestra, a wind band, opera performances, a choir and even smaller groups. Would you like to grab the baton?

I'm a specialist in the conducting of Contemporary Music, which requires a deep knowledge of the music and how it works. I can teach any interested student how to conduct any kind of group: do you want to become the conductor of your local wind band? Are you planning to start your own small orchestra and you want to know how to conduct it? We can work together on that, so you will learn, gradually, how to deal with all the required things to lead any group: the musical part itself, but also the group psychology, management, etc.

Join this class and enjoy of making music!

About Me

My name is Iago, I’m a professional pianist, composer and conductor. Also a teacher with 15+ years of experience. Once I finished my piano performing bachelor, I moved to the Netherlands to study a master in music composition and some further training in conducting. I just can’t stop my curiosity for learning more and more about music!

For the last few years, I’ve been teaching mainly in Amsterdam and online. Until last summer 2022, I was also the Piano Teacher and Head of Education in the Historic Conservatory of Santiago de Compostela.

My way of teaching changes a lot depending on the student’s interests and skills. That’s important to keep in mind! I’ve taught students with a “professional-goal” mind who got accepted in the universities they wanted, but also spent countless times making music games, so my students could learn and improve their skills by having plenty of fun.

I give my lessons a humanist approach: we’ll learn about piano, about composition… But also about all other topics that might have an impact in our learning process (from music theory to taking care of our health).

Iago makes learning fun! He asks lot of questions to encourage students to think. He demonstrates passion, patience and eagerness.
Fantastic teacher, explains things in easy-to-understand language and tailors lessons to my goals.
It’s time to write those musical ideas you have in mind! I’m Iago: pianist, composer, and conductor. With more than 9 years of teaching experience, I can help you, your children, family or friends to learn how to write all the musical ideas you have and want to share. About me? I’m a professional composer (experimental music and opera) with a master's degree from the Conservatorium Maastricht under the guidance of Vykintas Baltakas. I’m also a piano performer specialized in contemporary music (piano and electronic music, why not?), and I’m also running my own multimedia ópera company in the Netherlands. I’ve been teaching for 9 years, which allowed me to notice how important it is to adapt all the lessons to the students. Teaching music is my passion, so my teaching way is not just superficial. About the lessons? The lessons are planned to be as practical as possible and always adapted to the music taste of every student. The development of the lessons goes through different musical elements: harmony, structure, rhythm, new technologies, etc. The main core of this course is being able to write several pieces with different instruments and tools.
Piano is the instrument used by the romantics to make their most beautiful music, but also by the most experimental and modern composers to create their craziest music wonders. Isn't it a great instrument to play? With more than 5 years of experience teaching in music schools and 15 years as a private piano teacher, I developed an efficient and "fun-but-efficient" way to teach how to play the instrument. Every student is different, which means the way to play and learn shall be different, making every single lesson special and rewarding. I also offer the possibility of teaching in groups: if you want to know more about this option. Hope to see you soon in our class!

Learn the bass differently and intuitively
This course is above all there to make you want to play bass, let it be fun! It will be based on the practice of the instrument, on the understanding and the role of the bass. The theory will be based on the progress of the practice. Step by step, practice and theory will thus be complementary, and will necessarily be useful! Have you always dreamed of being able to play bass? it's time to get started! Let the magic of music take hold of you and become the accomplished bassist you always wanted to be! Possibility of offering this course to one of your loved ones, a very appreciated gift for people who would like to embark on a musical adventure!

Music Exams Support - any aspect, any board, any level.
Wanting some extra help in preparing for a music exam? Would you like some extra advice on performance techniques? Struggling with your composition tasks? Finding analysis of a piece of music confusing? I am here to help. I worked in a comprehensive school teaching music for over 35 years. In that time I engaged with many different exam boards at GCSE and A level delivering a range of different courses. I am passionate about all aspects of music, whether it be performing, composing or listening and analysis. Whatever you need help with, I am very keen to be able to offer my expertise in any or all of these areas. Each of the three disciplines is intrinsically connected with the other two and having a good grasp of all three will enable you to improve your ability overall.

Music Production 101: Get To Grips with Electronic Music Production
Electronic music production is a way of expressing ideas and stories beyond just the realms of a musical instrument. As a jazz trained piano player, band member, composer and producer, I've had the pleasure of performing my works across Europe to crowds of all sizes, age ranges, and tastes. With six years of self taught production and industry knowledge under my belt, I've been fortunate enough to play clubs, festivals, and international shows with my music, and have released music on a wide expanse of award winning electronic labels, such as Low Down Deep, Billegal Beats, Kingdom Audio, in the Lab Recordings, and more. This class will see you explore your journey as a music producer, regardless if you are a beginner, or more advanced in your production journey. Hope to see you here soon!

skills and techniques are explored during classes that aim to awaken listening, in this context, practice is an ally of imagination.
A music class aims to master the musical language without leaving fun aside. Musical education arouses enthusiasm and curiosity by tuning from the student's particular objectives to the singularities of repertoires that dialogue beyond the barriers of already conditional aesthetic currents. Teaching music is continuous learning, but instruction can become disadvantageous when there is no stimulus to encourage good habits. For these habits to be established, skills and techniques are explored during classes that aim to awaken listening, in this context, practice is an ally of imagination, learning an instrument is not treated as a monotonous activity, as a curated musical practice invoked by improvisation and creativity, essential tools in the construction of the different scenarios of music making.
