Trusted teacher: Hey, I am Yu. Nice to meet you. This lesson can help you set out to learn how to speak Hanyu, read, and write Zhongwen. For this purpose, you will study the Chinese alphabet (Hanyu Pinyin), characters(Hanzi), vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, and common words and phrases. If you want to learn the Chinese language, you've found the right class! Course materials can be: -Standard Course HSK (for language ability test) -Experiencing Chinese (for immersive classes) -Learn Chinese with me (for schoolchildren and teenagers) -AP Chinese -....... -any tailor-made materials that interest you This course is designed in three versions for different kinds of participants: 1) A Beginner! - Have little or no prior knowledge of the Chinese language; - Want to learn how to make yourself understood in Chinese when traveling, for example, understanding and speaking common everyday words (and sentences) in different typical scenarios ; - Hope to express 1-10 and some larger numbers in China in speech or by gesture decently. *Some examples at this stage: - Hello! Thank you. How are you? - Sorry. / You're welcome! - I can speak Chinese! What's your name? - What's the date today? What's the time now? - I'd like a cup of coffee. Is this seat free? - (and other current Chinese usages in any scenarios you're interested in! ) **Naturally, pronunciation and the four vowel tones are an important part of the lessons, but participants also learn the principles of Chinese writing and gain an understanding of Chinese culture! 2) An Intermediate Learner - Have upper-intermediate knowledge of Chinese; - Need to increasingly enhance our active language skills, to expand your vocabulary, practice reading without Pinyin, and master more advanced grammar and fixed structures to be able to make longer sentences; - Interest yourself in being able to express your views on common everyday topics, like foods, drinks, gifts, weather, Chinese habits, and common practice. 3) An Advanced Learner - Can speak and understand Chinese reasonably well; - Attempt to deepen your understanding of Chinese culture and learn more advanced grammatical constructs to communicate more specific and complex ideas in Chinese, both verbally and in writing; - Focus on topics dealt with leisure and hobbies, hospitality, culture, arts, poetry, history, dynasties and civilization, of modern and ancient China. ***I have lived in China for over twenty years, traveled to many cites (including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Hongkong, Macau, and so on), and have been educated at respected schools and universities. Currently, I am studying Social Sciences in the Netherlands and I am a fan of Chinese literature/Japanese anime/Marvel films, so it's also welcome that you would like to have an informative and interesting talk in Chinese about these topics. +China captures the imagination with its fascinating contrasts. A modern-day global economic entity that proudly upholds ancient traditions. Definitely, a good way to start learning more about China is by taking Chinese!

Trusted teacher: I hold a PhD in Art and Communication with Photography as my field of specialism and a PGCE teaching certificate in Post Compulsory Education. At the same time I am a practising photographic artist with an interest in abstract photography. I have a comprehensive understanding of contemporary photographic practices and of theoretical approaches to the subject, and also have a strong technical grounding both in traditional and in digital processes. I am experienced in all stages of the development of photographic projects, from early conceptualisation through to printing and exhibiting.I have exhibited nationally and internationally in both solo and group shows. My selection for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2008 Exhibition in Liverpool and London is one highlight among them. As an artist and teacher I insist on the highest professional standards and I emphasise clear and direct communication and honesty throughout. I have been teaching photography since 2009. I offer private lessons to photography students and any other individuals who would be interested in 'how to'/technical skills sessions or in developing a photographic body of work and would be in need for some expert advice. Just get in touch with your request as your photography needs might vary from something small to something big and I will be happy to answer and help you. I am passionate about photography and about teaching everybody to learn how to `see` and `think` creatively through the lens of a camera but also without it! I can help you develop your creative potential.

Trusted teacher: - Berlin based educator with over 12 years' of experience working as a maths tutor and as a classroom teacher. - I specialise in teaching GCSE Maths as well as GCSE English Literature. - Experience with the IB and with UK school entrance exams. - Experience helping students to transition to the UK system. Particular experience working with young people whose neurodiversity impacts on their learning. I bring a comprehensive understanding of the syllabus requirements, as well as a sensitivity to the needs of students of varying abilities and learning styles. I can offer support alongside the student's schooling, or can design a full homeschooling course. Classes can be online, in person or hybrid. I have a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford and an MFA in Creative Writing from St Andrews. Before becoming a tutor and teacher I worked as a government economics advisor, specialising in Education Policy. I have taught at Brookways School, Sutton; The Sultan's School, Muscat; and worked as supply staff at various schools across London. Oustide of teaching, I am a poet, theatre maker, facilitator and play therapist. This helps me to keep lessons engaging and fun. My teaching begins with a good relationship with the student. I also offer classes in drama and creative writing, to adults as well as young people. Selected Case Studies: O (16) and A (14) 2021-2022 (Maths and English GCSE) I home schooled O for one academic year, working on English and Maths GCSE. O has ASD and needed to work with a tutor with experience adapting to his particular learning needs. I worked with O for 12 hours each week. The role required adaptability to the family's schedules and O's varying ability to engage with the work. I now work with O's sister A on maths. A was 14 when we worked together and I was able to help her to plug gaps in her maths knowledge. Zoe (15-16) 2021-2023 (English GCSE) "Sean has been tutoring my daughter for 1.5 years. He engaged well with Zoe who found him inspiring and fun to work with. Sean is thoughtful and diligent, he understood the challenges she is facing with creative writing and constructed the lessons to suit her needs. He was also willing to change the content of a class and adapt to her requests at times that she was struggling to follow up. We feel very lucky to have had Sean supporting Zoe for her GCSE creative writing and would certainly recommend him to other families." (Athina, mother) Bert (15-16) 2021-2022 (Maths and English GCSE) "I would not hesitate to recommend Sean, who tutored my son Bert throughout his GCSEs to success. Bert, who is dyslexic also struggles with ADHD, he's not a natural student and struggles to engage. Sean showed outstanding compassion, rigour and tenacity around getting Bert on task, giving him context of the syllabus and supporting his learning. Sean is kind, thoughtful and holds a firm bar on what is expected/needed from his students. For Bert this worked super well, fostering a relationship of mutual respect. We enjoyed to have Sean stay with us during various holidays and he was flexible in his plans to accommodate different needs and locations. Sean is a great tutor and a really lovely guy and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him." (Rachel, mother)

Trusted teacher: It is never too late to start or resume learning piano! My teaching experience makes me a witness to this. Perhaps you came looking for piano lessons because you wish to be able to play some particular pieces, or to develop specific skills. Or maybe you don't know what your goal is yet, but are fond of the sound of the piano and want to dive into this wonderful instrument. Whatever the case, I am looking forward to hearing from you and discussing your next step! I try as much as possible to tailor the work with each individual student aiming at the goals set and the student's musical tastes. This becomes more the case the higher the student's level of experience. Nevertheless, beginners are also encouraged to suggest music for themselves to learn. The work on pieces is combined with other important activities designed to develop finger dexterity, hand coordination, rhythmic sense, music reading, playing by ear, etc. The Cortot, Hanon and scale exercises are some of my frequent choices for the technical work. For young beginners, I defend a no-book approach during the first 2 or 3 months, for three main reasons: it makes learning more fun, it unlocks our creative potential and it allows us to explore the instrument rather confidently and freely. Instead of learning how to read right from the start, students have the opportunity to play games, listen to music, sing, compose, and improvise over backing tracks, developing the core skills necessary for any musical activity later on. After this period, it is then time to introduce them to a method book. The one I recommend the most is Piano Safari. For teenage and adult beginners, the activities described above are selected and adjusted, and theory concepts may be introduced at an earlier stage. If desired, graded level series such as the RSL Classical or Contemporary Piano, among others, may be opted for. Please notice that my scheduling may not always be up to date on this website, so the best way to know my availability is sending me a message. Feel free to get in touch for any other questions as well! Looking forward to meeting you soon, Rodrigo

Yu feels like a very experienced girl, she gives you the right kind of attention. Her command and enthusiasm of the Chinese language is out of this world. Not only will she teach you Mandarin very professionally, but she will also explain and give historic reasons for some notions. To put a word or phrase into context is in my opinion a very effective and pleasurable way of learning a new language. Within an hour we made so much progress; something I honestly did not expect. I'm very happy I found her and I'm already hyped for the many lessons to come.
