Trusted teacher: Chess is a fun game that starts with the basic rules and moves through the 3 parts of the game: the opening, the middlegame, and the endgame. The focus at first is to teach you how the pieces move, what the goal of the opening is, and how the pieces interact. You will also learn the vocabulary related to chess and chess notation. Tactics are then explored to take advantage of hanging pieces, lack of king safety, space, and tempo. From here depending on what your personal goals are we will adapt the classes to cover what will help you progress. Open and friendly discussion about student's very specific struggles. For example, if RUAE I will go through each question type with student. If they highlight say linking question. I would break it down to the basic concept. Then use a formula for these questions that is always successful. I would then model the formula and after this apply to past paper link questions. I then would ask the pupil to complete easier examples, building their confidence until they felt comfortable to attempt past paper questions. Normally at this stage the student successfully understands how to complete these questions in all variations. This strategy is how I teach all different types of RUAE questions.

Before I started university, I wasn't confident in my English skills though I was always getting good grades at school. Being immersed into Linguistics taught me the whole new perspectives. I offer advice and recommendations, but I usually let my students pick textbooks as every student has different preferences and goals. It is always a pleasure to meet Phil for our weekly online French classes. He is a patient and kind teacher and always full of energy for our class. Phil is interested in a wide range of topics, so we always have something to talk about based on an article he selected as 'homework'. What I really appreciate about his way of teaching is that he corrects me during our conversation without breaking the flow of our talk, so I can really feel my confidence in speaking French increasing each class. I woulf highly recommend Phil if you are looking for a French tutor :)
