£36Detailed Tswana/Setswana grammar class taught by Motswana
Setswana is a rich, rhythmic language spoken in Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Belonging to the Bantu family, it closely resembles other languages in the region. I have found learning Setswana through several terrific teachers, thorough textbooks and daily life enriching. Growing up in Botswana, speaking this beautiful and intricate language, or at least making an effort to do so, can transform the way you live in Botswana. I have taught semester-long regular beginners Setswana lessons to children aged 7-12 and adults, with strong emphasis on understanding grammar by breaking it down into “formulas” for how to form tenses and sentences. I teach these and vocabulary through a mix of traditional explanatory lectures, practice exercises and creative games, accompanied by study techniques I have found very useful for learning foreign languages. I have also worked as a trained English tutor, and study linguistics at university, both of which have shaped me to better understand and teach language. Each class will consist of grammar formulas (eg: basic conjugation in the present tense: linking pronoun [for the human noun class group, for example: ke=I, o=you, o=him/her, re=we, le=you plural, ba=they] + “tla” [as in “will”] + verb), some vocabulary words, spoken or written exercises or games to go through together and longer practice exercises to build independent confidence. My teaching materials I use I developed whilst living in Botswana, and have already been used with my aforementioned classes. I hope they can help you too ! Camilo is an excellent Spanish teacher. We’ve been working together for 2.5 months and my Spanish has advanced so much. I’ve worked with teachers in the past and have taken a lot of classes, I can confidently say from experience that Camilo really knows what he’s doing. His lessons are well planned and thorough, the homework assignments are not too time consuming and really focus on the topic we are learning and help me advance a lot. He’s a genuinely nice person and I enjoy our conversations. Class time always goes by so quickly because it’s a lot of fun (and we check out different cafes around Medellin which is also fun!). I highly highly recommend Camilo as your Spanish teacher!

Mary has been great in our interactions. At the moment, we are meeting twice a week for an hour each session. She started with a class in which we got to know each other and she listen to my goals. Then, she prepared exercises and lessons specially designed to help me reach those goals with practice and also prepared lessons to help me continue growing as a guitar player. Moreover, she goes often out of her way to get songs challenging to my level, but that are doable with enough practice. In all, I am enjoying quite a lot of our classes and I am always looking forward to them.
