Music theory is not some boring slab of rules that tells you how you're supposed to do things. It's more a description of the way things naturally happen in music. And a way of agreeing how we communicate those things, so that everybody knows what we're talking about. If you've always wondered a bit about music theory and what it could do for you, you're not the only one. Many people are kind of curious about it and at the same time afraid that it will be too difficult, that it will spoil music for them or that it will be incredibly boring. All of that really really depends on how you go on about it. At what point in your musical development you learn about it, if you have a nice teacher that you feel happy to be around and if you are learning it with a clear purpose. Learning some music theory in order to funkify your compositions for example, or because you want to clarify what you are doing when you improvise, is a clear purpose. Or learning it because you want to enter in music school, or just because you're interested. In any case, learning music theory is like learning to read. It gives you access to stuff beyond just being able to talk about it. If you're curious enough to find out this is the perfect place. In this class you will learn everything out there about rhythm, harmony and music notation. Depending on what you like we can have you applying this knowledge in composition or improvisation. We can prepare you for doing a music school exam if that is your goal. From playful experimentation to hard, in-depth work, it's your call.
