I’m a professional guitarist with a BA (Hons) Music degree in Jazz performance who has experience teaching students of all levels and ages. I’ve been playing guitar for over 20 years, and write, record and perform music for a living alongside teaching. As someone who is constantly developing my own guitar playing and has dedicated my life to music, I believe I can pass on some of this knowledge to students who are interested in either picking up the guitar as a beginner or looking to take their guitar playing to the next level. Whether you are totally starting from new, have been playing for a while but are stuck in a rut, looking to develop your voice as an improviser, expand your chord knowledge, learn how music theory works (and importantly, relate it to playing the guitar!), learn Jazz, learn how to compose on the guitar, or whatever stage of playing you happen to be at, I’m sure I can help you. Some common topics include: chords (simple chords to advanced jazz voicings), rhythm/groove, learning to improvise/ solo, playing over chord changes, technique, rhythm guitar playing, scales, modes, bending strings, playing with ‘feel’, accompanying a vocalist, improving your ear, honing in on a specific style of playing (blues, jazz, funk, rock, soul, RnB, rock and roll, reggae, etc.) My aim is to create a relaxed learning environment where you’re comfortable making mistakes and trying things out. For younger students/ beginners who don’t have a specific style in mind, I provide an enjoyable and clear methodology that gets students playing music and learning the fundamentals of technique, musicality and theory from the get go. For students who have a more solid idea of what they want to do with the guitar, I let your interests dictate where I take the lessons - I try to be as flexible as I can to get you to where you want to be, while providing a clear and consistent path to playing the music you love! Lessons last 50 minutes.
